My new 68
Came across this 68 lwb this week and had to buy it. its mostly stock except for a paint job back in the 80's. it was originally gold and I think I is a 50th anniversary model.it has custom emblems on the doors but spid says cst. original owner is 90 years old and said it has a 327. it has a 2 barrel carburetor and I wonder if a 327 came 2 barrel? everything work even the a/c. still trying to decide whether to keep it. may even make it a shortbed. found a local guy that can shorten bed and frame but its pricey. I will just drive it a while till I make up my mind

Re: My new 68
Yes 327s came with either a 2 barrel , or 4 barrel , I believe the 2 barrel said 210 horsepower turbojet on the air cleaner sticker , and the 4 barrels said 250 horsepower turbojet
Please remove that grill guard , makes the truck look like a square body from the front

Re: My new 68
got the grill guard off today. shined up the front end of truck. hasn't been cleaned in 40 plus years because of the guard. that guard sure is heavy. too dark for pictures when i got through.

Re: My new 68
That grill guard would look pretty good on a 4x4. Nice truck all around.

Re: My new 68
What is the paint code on the SPID? 551 would be a 50th anniversary truck. Also would have had gold visors, gold seatbelts, and a gold dash pad.

Re: My new 68
I'd sell the cow catcher, unless you plan to be driving in pastures or in the woods. My Dad's old 68 had one on it, was not as stout as yours. Finding these old pickups that have not had any attention from the days of their earlier work days can be interesting. They were generally worked to death, performing all kinds of tasks!!!

Re: My new 68
started fixing the brakes today. both front wheel cylinders were leaking and look original. came across my first riveted on brake drum. I have put brakes on several of these trucks but never came across a drum with the rivets still in it. I beat the old drum to pieces with a BIG hammer before I figured that out. anyway new drums, pads , brake lines, and wheel cylinders all found at OREILEYS. I will see if it stops tomorrow.

did you ever determine if the paint is origonal or was it origonal gold at some point. I'm curious because my 68 k20 has a very similar paint defect in the same location on the same driver side front fender, and my truck is white but beneath the white paint is similar black primer. which plant did your truck come out of? |

Re: My new 68
original paint was gold. the previous owner painted all the gold part green back in the 80's. he even changed some of interior parts to green. it has white door panels and a gold and white seat.

Re: My new 68
I am the second owner of a long bed 67 with a big rear window. Its really clean like yours. I thought of making it a short bed but I put some rally wheels on it and I am going to keep it a long bed.
