Inherited My Grandpas 66 C10 (Newbie to the 60-66 crowd)

Well I'm on the boards all the time but have only posted a couple of times on the Blazer side. As the title suggests I'm a new owner of a 66 C10. My Grandpa owned it for 30 years. It's been in storage most of that but served as a farm truck for many years. I pulled it out of the barn a couple months back & commenced to having the truck not completely restored but I'll call it refurbed. It's a long bed & I considered shortening it at first but have really fallen in love with the long bed look. here's some pics from the day I pulled it from the barn to the way it currently sits. Lot's of work to be done but I am totally enjoying the process. Lots of great ideas and advice on these boards.

WOW! What a great looking truck for a farm truck,i felll in love with the longbeds also especially when lowered, The whitewalls always top a vehicle appearance off! I liked the red but like the blue better i think complements the white! Any plans on lowering it or drive as is?Thanks for sharing look forward to what you do next.

Nice looking truck. The colored trim and white walls really make it pop. What brand and size whitewall are you running?

Re: Inherited My Grandpas 66 C10 (Newbie to the 60-66 crowd)

Thanks y'all! My Grandpa has taken great care of the truck but over the last couple decades it's fall into disrepair. Mostly small things but there has been a lot to do. I do plan on lowering it 5-7 inches. I've assembled the parts just haven't had the opportunity to do the work yet. I'm keeping the original 250 I6 but am either going to go the Clifford Performance 6=8 route or maybe turbo charge it like a couple guys I've seen on the board. Also am going to eventually put a 5 speed in. The Interior is currently being re-painted the original Fawn Metallic. The wheels are wheel Vintques Smoothie, 15x7 & the tires are Coker Classic bias-ply WW, 7.60-15. Here's a ruff photoshop of the truck lowered & a few other pics.

Best part is he's still around. He decided to give it to me before he passed & now he'll get a chance to see & ride in his old truck!

Re: Inherited My Grandpas 66 C10 (Newbie to the 60-66 crowd)

Here's some before interior shots. can't wait to get it back from the paint shop & see that fresh Fawn Metallic. Then for Dynamat & carpet and new seats. I'd like to keep the old bench but at 6'5 I'm just too dang tall to be comfortable. I'm trying to find some modern Leather truck buckets with a jump seat. All power with heat sounds pretty nice. Putting a Killer kicker system in it. putting a pair of 12 inch subs in a fiberglass enclosure with an amp rack behind the seat. Then the separates will go in custom fiberglass kick panels. Everything will be done very stealthy & clean. You'll never see anything but the kick panels. The system will run off an I-pod only. The original AM radio still works great & will remain in the truck.

He loves what he's seen so far. Not sure he'll think much of lowering it but that's a generational thing. He told me was just happy someone wanted it & would take care of it. I don't think it means half as much to the rest of the family as it does to me. I've always loved it. I have a ton of great memories of riding in it with him. Now even when he's gone he'll be riding with me.

I don't think there is anything more valuable about our trucks than our memories of grandpa.
Experiences like yours always pull at my heart strings.

Now is the time to ask to go through old family albums. My grandpa's truck is in more than one family video taken back in the late 60's early 70's.
That stuff is huge.

If you take out that seat to install buckets, I sure would like to buy that just for the original seat cover for my survivor 66 c10. That trucks amazing for originality.

Thanks man it really is a beautiful survivor. I plan on having the seat professionally cleaned than wrapped in plastic for long term storage. I'm not even altering the floor to install new seats. I'm having brackets built to mount the new seats made to fit the original holes.

Beautiful truck man! I have the exact same story as you. My grandpa gave me his old truck and much like yourself, he is luckily still around. If only mine was in that good of shape to start with.

Old custom classic trucks have soul. Their dashboards aren't plastic, and they've survived both the best and worst of what the 20th century had to offer. For the owners of these trucks, it's often the same story. Through both good and bad times they persevered, until one day they could turn the key and roll up in a customized truck everyone with good taste would admire.Custom Classic Trucks
