Factory brake booster equipment
Is there any scenario a 67-72 truck would have a factory brake booster without listing the J70 RPO code for brake booster equipment? In other words, if J70 is not listed on the SPID, is it safe to assume the truck did not come with factory brake booster? Are there 71-72 models with manual disc brakes?

Re: Factory brake booster equipment
My '69 CST was built without power brakes. When I bought the truck new, part of the deal was that the dealer install power brakes. The installation looks like what the factory was installing.

Re: Factory brake booster equipment
I'm certain 71/72 half tons all come standard with manual disc brakes and I've owned a few that were equipped as such. Since you bring it up I'm wondering if the larger trucks say a camper special three-quarter ton or a one ton Dually might come with power brakes standard as part of a package?

Not sure about later years, but my '69 mentioned in post 4 is a 3/4 ton.

Re: Factory brake booster equipment
My 71 Custom Deluxe shows J70 (HYDRO BRAKE BOOSTER) on the SPID, but my 72 Super doesn't, which doesn't strike me unusual for a Super, it probably falls under "YE9". Odds are it's on the Super's build sheet, but I have to remove the seat to see it.

That settles that. Thanks Fred!

So I ended up buying the truck. Besides the brake booster oddity...there are two other things that seem odd: 1) The "SUPER" fender emblems are mounted above the Cheyenne emblems. I would normally think this is a PO hackjob, but I'm not sure...the fenders (and actually the entire truck) appear original--paint and all. YE9 is Cheyenne Super equipment is listed on the SPID. And glovebox VIN matches door jamb VIN with rosette rivets. 2) It also has dual horns, but no indication of RPO U08 for dual horns. I need to take a closer look to see if they are mounted in stock locations, but I think they were at first glance. Once I get the truck home in the next week or so, I will post some pics. Here is a (poor) pic of the SPID, with the options cut off listed below. A11 tinted glass F60 HD front spring G60 Auxiliary Spring EQ M20 4spd trans VF1 Chrome Bumper-Rear YE9 Cheyenne super Last edited by 402Bowtie; 12-05-2018 at 02:02 AM. |

Re: Factory brake booster equipment
Upon further review... the Vehicle Information Kits for 1971s and 1972s on the GM Heritage Center website indicate that power brakes were included on C-20s and C-30s and optional on C-10s.

Re: Factory brake booster equipment
Very cool, power brakes on a C10 is an option. To answer your question above, Yes, my 72 C-20 Super does not show J70 on the SPID.

Re: Factory brake booster equipment
Is your '72 a C20 or C30? ....which would match up with FirstOwner69's info in post #9.
