Alarm/keyless entry questions
Hey. Been away for a while. Computer problems, motor problem. So the my computer is fixed, and the truck has a new motor.
Now I have an alarm and keyless entry I want to install and have a few questions. First, does anyone know if the door lock system is a "positive trigger" or "reverse polarity"? I guess thats the only real question i have. But can anyone post pictures of where they either installed the box or where they made most of the connections? Should I just splice into the harness right by the junction block at the firewall? Any tips? This is the one i am installing. http://www.crimestopper.com/index2.html It was given to me, so thats my reasoning for the model I am using. Thanks -Jeremy |

2 tips or 2 cents
First, never splice on the firewall, anyone can see what you did and make it an easy target to disappear (the truck I mean). Always work under the dash.
Second, the locks are not reverse polarity(but the depends on your kit) A kit like Viper can be mounted either way. Also, if you are hooking up the remote start, be sure to set a 3.4 sec lapse on the starter otherwise you may flood the engine (I am taking a guess that it is not fuel injected) If it is, a simple 2.8/2.5 lapse will work fine. Good luck with your install.

Using a car alarm is kinda like using a radar detector or a condom, You just know when your about to get screwed.
Why bother with an alarm when no one pays attention to them anymore. When I was a kid, we used to go set them off in the local mall parking lot for fun(Yes, Medford really is that boring a place to live).

Ugh...
I started a thread about this a few months ago... my conclusion? You must know your wiring harness inside and out, and not be afraid to perform surgery on it. Personally, I am not man enough to hack into a facotry wiring harness. I suggest you take it to a reputable shop to have it done, or seriously study up on the wiring harness.

On second thought, maybe I will just get a system that only has keyless entry. I am not really worried about the alarm I just want the convenience of unlocking my doors with the push of a button.
I don't have any wiring diagrams besides what the haynes maual has and thats not much. Is there a good source online somewhere without paying? -Jeremy |
