Need Some Info: 6 Lug to 5 Lug Swap

I have an opportunity to buy a neighbors truck for $250.00 to $300.00. I'm not sure what year it is but I do know it's a 73-87 Chevy Truck. My question. I have a 1969 GMC SWB with 6 lug drums all the way around and was wondering if I could use the 5 lug disk components for the front and swap the 6 lug rear end for the 5 lug that is on this 73-87 Truck. If so, is the front swap a bolt on conversion or is there alot of fabrication involved. As for the back, I'm currently converting leafs to trailing arms. Will the 73-87 rear end even work? If so, I'll wait to weld on the new axle saddle brackets I purchased from ECE.

If the 73-87 does not work, how about any of the later model full size Chevy's?

Thanks

The whole front cross member is supposed to bolt right in. You have to drill bigger holes for the idler arms though. I just picked up the same truck to do the same convertion. But I will buy new 6 lug rotors so I can leave my rear end.

The front end (entire cross member is a bolt in. You only have to wallow out two on the mounting bolt holes for a perfect fit.

Because your's is a 69, the 5 lug axles won't be a direct swap into your axle housing (your's is narrower). Since you are already converting your rear setup, just take the trailing arm and panard mounts you were going to put on your original axle setup and weld them on to the new axle housing instead. It should not be any more work than what you are doing and you'll have the better brakes off the newer year models.

I say go for it, should be good.
