1980 chevy truck question

I recently found this board and love it! any way i am going to go look at a 1980, smaller (maybe a c-10?) size truck. It is a full size. Six cylinder with three on the tree manual trans. Were these motors pretty good? Anything to watch out for on these? I plan to tow a small trailer and around town driving. Will this particular truck handle a trailer pretty well? So any and all comments welcome! I am not finding much info on these trucks? so i need all i can find.. Oh yea, any ideas what the gas mileage would be? And how much emissions crap would be on this motor?

yeah it is easy to tire of the 6 real soon so i am sure that a 350 will be in your not too distant future... unless you will show the truck then it doesnt matter whats in there

plenty of emissions came on 1980 modles (all of them i think), but most are eliminated easily (not that i know from experience or anything... ). AND this is the last year of emissions for the 1980 model year (at least in louisiana), so its ok to get rid of it in like 7 months (unless your state goes back further)

WELCOME TO THE BOARD.

well, i went and looked at it. It runs good, shifts good, body is in real good shape. I cant seem to see anything wrong with it on the surface. What little i ran it, it seemed to run fine. I saw one thing, but it would be an easy fix, the speedometer was unhooked because it clicked. The only thing i dont know about is the price. He is asking 1600 and could proably get him down to 13 -1400. So whatch you all think it is worth? East tennessee are, by the way..

I'd pay 1,500 for it. It looks real clean, and a great canidate for learning all about these trucks. I would even keep the 6 and 3 speed for a while...they are fun to drive.

Welcome to the board.

Oh, Jon...thanks for the plug.

I agree, buy it. I would look at getting rid of the 3 spd, though. I had one in college, and the linkage had a tendancy to get hung up, usually at the most inoportune times. I taught my wife to drive a standard in that truck. It was a '77, with the 305ci, and it got about 17-20mpg just running around.

That looks like a really clean truck!! Its in very good shape. I would talk him as low as he would go. But I think its well worth what he is asking but you can probably talk him down. I bet you want to put a 350 SB in their in the future. Very easy swap.
Anyways welcome to the board!!

Hi guys ,

I don't want to play the PITA , but I would let that truck as it is , the SWB's with the six and the three on the tree are becoming very rare nowadays , certainly here in Europe ...

there is a plenty of those trucks existing in the USA with the 350/350 combo , so keep this one , and buy another one later...

Oh , by the way , the day you want to sell it , contact me , I love those 250ci engines...

Yes, buy it by all means. Looks like a fairly new paint job. I agree with everone, Get the 6 banger out and find a good 350 and tranny to put in it's place. Body looks great.
