Setting cab on its back okay???

I've seen it done on here but always worry about damage. The cab is currently on jack stands mounted to the tire rollers you can roll a vehicle around a shop with. Makes it easy to move around but impossible to clean and paint the underside and fix the cab mounts. Can I safely lay the cab on the concrete floor and do all my cleaning up and painting before re-mounting to the frame? Do I need to brace in the door openings? The rockers are in place already....thanks for any advice. (other than purchasing a tip and flip dolly as that's out of budget )

I would do it. I have done it. I don't see an issue.

I laid mine on it's back to clean the bottom. Didn't have any issues either. Just have someone help you so you dont wind up rolling the cab corners in.

Okay, sounds good...so no one put any bracing with the doors out? I just know the firewall is real heavy.....

Re: Setting cab on its back okay???

i would probably make a brace from the hinges to the latch.
I'm sure many have done it, but I have seen one that got tweaked from doing this.

That's what I was worried about...I would be the one that would have it happen too...

Way back before I ever heard of a rotisserie we used to tip 20s and 30s cars over on an old mattriss to work on the bottom. LOL!

That used to be the standard method of working on the bottom side of the floorboards. I'd throw a couple big sheets of cardboard down to lay it on and Carefully tip it over but don't let it slam down.
Keep an eye on the cardboard or other padding if you do a lot of grinding or weld on it when it is tipped over though.

Re: Setting cab on its back okay???

Mine was on its back for a number of weeks while we welded in new cab supports etc. Back on the truck now did not seem to do it any harm at all. The doors were off.

Re: Setting cab on its back okay???

Do not just roll it over or you will most likely roll the lower rear part of the cab corners in where it rolls up to the floor... Pick it up, flip it and lay it down..
