Stock heat riser measurement question
I am wanting to re-install a heat riser on my 71' having a 350 with stock ramhorns. When I had the exhaust replaced, I told them to configure everything as it was stock, so I'm assuming the diameter of the exhaust pipe is as it's supposed to be measuring 2-1/4" at the tailpipe. I have found NOS heat risers listed as 2" and 2-1/2". Can anyone tell me which one I need, or was original? It's tough to measure at the manifold! Thanks

Re: Stock heat riser measurement question
I have oem ramhorn on pass. side, w/2" i.d. replacement heat riser (since removed, so it's easy to measure).

Re: Stock heat riser measurement question
Thank you for the info. I will go with the 2". Nice to see someone else keeping things as original as possible!

Re: Stock heat riser measurement question
I've always seen them on the passenger side - make sure you still have a crossover type intake manifold ( stock or non blocked off ports) otherwise a heat riser won't do any good

Re: Stock heat riser measurement question
Yup, passenger side. I couldn't tell any difference with it on or out, and since it occasionally rattled, I removed it. Still have it, of course -- it's too expensive to toss out, and besides, I never throw anything away!
Edit: I just remembered another reason I removed it... Most of my driving these days is short trips and nothing gets fully warmed up. Driver's side muffler gets rusted out much sooner than pass. side; not sure why but I'm guessing it might have something to do with unequal exhaust flow (therefore heat) due to the heat riser. Mufflers haven't been replaced since removing the heat riser, so I don't know if my theory is any good.
