VIN tag problems and questions

K i just realized a big problem or at least i think it is....my VIN tag for my 68 is the same except for the plant it was manufactured at....

TITLE READS CE148F148030

TAG READS CE148S148030

IS this possible that it was a screw up during titling?

Re: VIN tag problems and questions

Print out a list of plants that built these.

You can do that from the link on the main page here.

Take it to your BMV.

Explain to them that you think there has been a typo at some point.

I am sure that is your issue.

Re: VIN tag problems and questions

S in the VIN means St Louis, MO.
F means Flint, Mich.

Probably a typo at some point at the DMV. Call and ask how you can get it corrected.

Re: VIN tag problems and questions

shouldnt be a big deal....
They may have you take the vehicle and title to the same inspectors that inspect cars brought into the country.
They will refer to it as a "title correction"

Re: VIN tag problems and questions

I had a typo on mine. After looking at microfilm at the DMV, I realized this truck has
been titled wrong since the first private owner bought it from the federal gov. in 1982.
It took me 2 days and 8 hours at the DMV to finally get it titled. I had an extra digit
in my VIN, two 1's where there should be one 1. The second day at the DMV I brought
a copy of LMC to show them the vin decoding. Not sure if that is what convinced
them or if they were tired of seeing my face. It was closing time, I think they just wanted to leave.

Re: VIN tag problems and questions

I had the same thing happen to my vin tag #. I had been driving the truck for over 18 years and never noticed it until i was renewing the lisence. Took it to the dmv and they said it was probably a typo. They had me get inspected by the local county mounty. Then took paper back to the dmv and a few days later i had a new title with the correct numbers on it.

Re: VIN tag problems and questions

talked to the DMV today and to find out, i only need the title, driver license, bill of sale, and a pencil sketch of the tag. its free...and their is no questions either. they to.d me that if a vehicle hasnt been registered for 20+ yrs, they drop it out of the system. 45 bucks to correct the title to the tag and get the title in my name....
