700r4, Slow going into Drive
I have just recently installed a rebuilt 700r4 into my truck. I bought the transmission off of a guy that rebuilds transmissions on the side.
Upon running it for the first time, I installed 8 quarts of transmission fluid and it reads that is is properly filled. I have also ran through the gears with the rear end jacked up. I have gone on various "test runs" and the truck goes great into reverse without any delays. However, when I then shift it into drive, it takes about 4-5 seconds before the truck wants to goes into drive. Once it is in drive, it shifts properly and seems to work fine. It has had this same issue since the install. I have ran out of ideas to look at, and not sure what direction to look into. My truck as a stock 350sb motor as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Adam |

Re: 700r4, Slow going into Drive
Was the trans and torque converter dry when installed? Seems to me that 700r4s hold 12-13 quarts when totally dry.

Re: 700r4, Slow going into Drive
Before I installed it, I did fill up the torque converter with transmission fluid. It almost seems like the transmission might need more fluid, but I am not sure if this is a good route to take????

Re: 700r4, Slow going into Drive
You have the right amount of fluid. Me and my dad just installed a 700R4in my truck. It was dry when we got it, I put about 6 in the TC, and 8in the transmission. But mine drops right into gear when i put it in drive though.

Re: 700r4, Slow going into Drive
Why not just drive it to the guy and let him figure it out? I would think that the valve body might need to be looked at....
Good luck...
