Suspension / Frame Paint - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

So I have been looking all over this site for what to paint my frame and suspension parts with, specifically my new spindles and calipers. It seems to be a toss up between Eastwood Extreme chassis black and POR15 for the frame, but what about the suspension components? (spindles, calipers etc).

Can I get a solid recommendation form someone who has painted there frame and suspension, driving the poo out of there truck and still likes what they see?

Por-15 seems to be hit and miss for me. Sometimes good results, sometimes it peels off. And I ALWAYS prep per the instructions. I'm ready to try something else.

I too have had mixed results with POR15. usually peeling. It is great on old rusty textured metalbut since a lot of my work includes a mix of new steel it will almost always peel.

For cast spindles I have just been using a good coat of spray bomb prime followed by flat black. I have used hi-temp like for BBQ's and such with good results too.

Do you sandblast your new parts prior to painting? That seems to work for me.

Though I haven't gotten mine on the road yet, in the past I have used POR-15. It has worked well but I didn't like the fact they did not offer a spray version and there are some serious warnings about spraying POR-15.

My current build, I decided to try Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator primer and Satin Chassis black. So far I have been very happy with how they apply. I do clean everything up and do a wax/grease remover wipe down before painting.

So far so good but only once I getting driving will I really know. Sorry not more help.

I used zero rust,they have spray bomb and quarts for gun .Looks ok so far for me

Although the finish is maybe not what you are looking for, the Rustoleum 'Hammertone' line is extremely tough. It comes in rattle and quarts that can be sprayed; kinda reminds me of some powdercoating, actually. There is a guy in the 60-66 section that painted his 4x4 frame with it and he said it has stood up to his offroading so far.

I have used the MasterSeries line of paints on my spindles, rearend, and front crossmember and am very pleased. Super tough and easy to use. I sprayed it on.

I purchased mine from my local auto paint supply store.

You can use INDUSTRIAL Rustoleum thinned with acetone (50/50) to achieve a similar look.

Over the years I have had great results with all of the Eastwood products. I have never used Chassis Black, but just about everything else they offer in a spray can.

Ken, which black paint from Eastwood did you use if you didn't apply Classic Black?

And I'm also curious which gray you used on your drums/rotors. Was it Spray Gray?
