Simple column question on hazard flasher

Could someone with a 78-90 stock GM column tell me how the hazard flasher button works? Mine seems to be hanging up and I do not know if it pulls or pushes to engage or if column position is a factor. Looked on line and found lots of parts and wiring diagrams but no owner manuals.... Thanks.

Re: Simple column question on hazard flasher

I'd have to look in a book when I get home but am not sure that there is a definitive diagram. I think I have a book that covers that model or a book that covers that switch in another model

I do have a rather bent up 79 El Camino column out of the one my son totaled that should have the same switch. Stay tuned for the afternoon photo essay.

Looking at my OReilly cheat sheet it appears that that switch is used in a ton of vehicles http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...2100&ppt=C0039

I'm thinking that when you push it in or pull it out there is a sliding plate type switch that hits the right contacts to work the four ways.

Re: Simple column question on hazard flasher

I know it has an outer sleeve and inner button, but both are mia. They are repoped for a few bucks so that is not the issue, just need to know if it pushes or pulls to engage. I noticed when I started the truck the em flashers where working and when I turn off the key one turn signal indicator lamp glows dimmly, enough to discharge the battery over night. I pulled the hazard fuse and no more glow. I will continue to look to, you help is appreciated. Patrick

Push in to turn on and pull the sleeve to turn off.

Re: Simple column question on hazard flasher

Fixed, I had pushed it in to paint, found a screw that fit, pulled it out and lights off. What a concept. Ordered new plastic pieces and spring, $6 shipped on ebay. Thanks guys.
