pics of 73-80 2 tone with no trim?

with any luck my crew cab will be off to paint in a couple weeks but I still havent decided on a color/s. Seems like replacing the trim is going to be pretty expensive and most arent happy with the aftermarket trim, so I've decided to go without. I'm considering going 2-tone but I'm not real sure what and where to break the paint with. So does anyone have pictures of 73-80 2 tones without trim I might be able to steal some ideas from?

I think if you try to break the paint at the body line without the trim, it will look goofy. That's just an opinion, but I would think if you are going to can the trim, I would keep it a solid color. Since you are going to a shortbed, you should be able to piece the trim together relatively easy I would think.

The main problem (it's not a problem for some) is getting your color lines perfectly straight, especially in the front by the turn signal where it curves sharply twice. I saw one truck where he air brushed trim on the side of it. He painted on trim exactly like what came off and I thought it looked good.

Yeah I dont think I would break it at the body line, the front fender causes too many issues.

I was thinking about breaking the colors with some small graphics or pin stripe, I thought about pin striping it but I cant imagine what it would cost someone to do that. I was thinking about something like this (cant remember whose truck this is?). I will probably end up one solid color though.

Re: pics of 73-80 2 tone with no trim?

I had a Van years ago that we used the Pin stripes to break where the color changed without using a molding. It acted as a divider and help the eye so it didnot look out of place.

Re: pics of 73-80 2 tone with no trim?

There was a guy on here that had a 77 with the 77 only yellow trim. He removed the trim, but painted a thin ochre yellow stripe along the body line where the trim used to be. Looked pretty good.

I like the one on the left. It's an '80 sport

Re: pics of 73-80 2 tone with no trim?

I like the one on the left too. The only thing I think I would do different is make the different color stripes narrower.
Say they are 1-1/2" to 2" each now, I would make them 1/2" to 3/4" each.
It would be less "busy" but still give you the break.

Re: pics of 73-80 2 tone with no trim?

PS; I think the key to most of the trucks that have been posted is they are a single break.
The exception being the white & blue Suburban. It has two breaks; white/blue/white. That one looks to me like it is missing the trim?

Re: pics of 73-80 2 tone with no trim?

I always wanted to paint a truck black and silver. I'm glad someone else likes that combo also. I have seen several black and silver trucks and liked most of them. I think its where you split the paint is what makes it stand out. I cant wait to see it when its done.

Re: pics of 73-80 2 tone with no trim?

I personally like both of the photochops. On a side note, about the Carter Hickman rendering toward the top of the page - is that blazer real? With the Ramcharger front end? At least I think it looks like a Ramcharger grill. If so, that's the coolest thing I've ever seen on a square body. Is it real, or just a rendering?

Re: pics of 73-80 2 tone with no trim?

i used to have a pic of a truck that had airbrushed trim in stock style.you had to almost leave a snot trail to tell it wasn't real.spendy option though.the corvex trim kit's aren't that bad.just not as good as stock.mine's all corvex.no trim and a stock two tone look's just like a two tone with no trrim.in my opinion.

Re: pics of 73-80 2 tone with no trim?

Consider this for something interesting...

Don't put the trim on; however, have the custom painter airbrush on the trim. I once saw emblems that looked like the real thing except for the fact that they were flat airbrushed paintings, and it looked quite amazing. That would be a cool way to break up the two-tone.
