A few brake and steering column questions...
Hey guys I got a few questions. I want to do a front disc brake conversion and tilt column on my 68 c-10. Would parts off of a 95 siverado 1/2 ton work for me? If not, what years would I need and what parts would I need exactly? There is this 95 silverado that this guy is parting out so I am thinking about buying the 700r4 tranny and the seats. Oh and 1 more question. I have a 3 speed saginaw, what parts from his tranny would I need? Bellhousing, driveshalf, linkages, anything else? Gonna start my restoration this Monday. Thanks in advance. Storm.

Re: A few brake and steering column questions...
There was a thread awhile back where a guy did use some late model spindles. However it took a hodge-podge of parts from different donors to get it to work. I think for simplicity sake- I'd try to find a 73-87 1/2 ton and snag the whole front x-member (rotor to rotor) as well as the booster and MC and put the whole shootin' match in. It's almost a bolt in affair and you get the benefit of 5 lug rotors, beefier tie rods, and cheaper & more plentiful replacement parts.
Regarding the 700R4 tranny- you'll need to fab or buy a new tranny x-member and mounts and might need to have the driveline altered- I don't know for sure. If you're going column shift then a you'll need an auto tranny column and linkage. Also do not forget the TV cable and spend the cash to have a reputable tranny shop set it up for you- or you can fry your new trans fairly quickly. Speaking of columns- I would shy away from the late model varieties- It just seems like alot of wiring hassle's with the only benefit being the tilt functionality. Check the parts board- it shouldn't be too hard to find a 71-72 tilt column out of a P-Up or Van for a decent price....it might cost more then what you're eyin' now, but would save alot of potential electrical heartache down the road.

Re: A few brake and steering column questions...
The 71-2 parts are exact replacements. You can buy 6 hole rotors from the specialty suppliers if you want to keep the same wheels. You will have to remove the crossmember under the bell housing if you put in a auto trans. The 90 up trans were electronic contolled & you will need some kind of controls for it. The speedo also is electronic.
