Some strange holes

When I was redoing my cab I literially forgot to weld up two tiny holes that are equal distance from the center of the cigg lighter spot. I just bought some dash plugs and capped them. I was looking at ebay and found another 60-61 gmc with the exact same holes. So I suppose it had to be either factory or Some same after market. Any ideas?

Re: Some strange holes

Mine has them too. They might be for other models (larger like 40 -60 series) The PO of my truck used one of the holes for radio volume for inside the camper.

Re: Some strange holes

Oh not those holes, on the dash next to the ignition is the normal cigg. lighter hoile and on each side is 2-1/4 inch sized holes. Take another look at the pictures you should see them. I thought my truch was messed yup, but the other trucj had them too. The odds of haveing them in the same spot are better than the lottery.

Re: Some strange holes

I'm curious Jake, did yours come with a cigarette lighter or a block off plug? I've seen lighters with map lights on the end, but I can’t imagine any type of factory accessory that would require those holes. If your truck came with a lighter, perhaps the holes could have held a microphone clip at some point for a CB radio and the socket powered the device?

If your truck did not originally have a lighter to power some nebulous accessory, the extra holes would seem even more strange or interesting.

Re: Some strange holes

Yep truck came with teh cigg. lighter, and the holes were there before I had gotten the cab from another 60-66 member back in 2003 or 2004. I just assumed they were for someother accessory. I was thing the PO drilled them, but the other truck in teh pictures has tehm in the same spot too. Too wierd.

Re: Some strange holes

Not sure what they are for but its not a mic clip. They are too far apart for any mic clip I have ever seen.

Re: Some strange holes

Oh, sorry, You mean these holes. The on the left is for the manual choke on mine. I don't know what the one on the right would be used for since the PO used it for fans installed under the seat.

Re: Some strange holes

You missed again

The holes i'm speaking of are probally NOT on your truck. Look at my picture and you will see wher the cigg lighter is next to the Ign. see the two tiny holes on either side of the lighter hole? Thats what I was talking about.

Jake

Re: Some strange holes

You did a really nice job with the interior paint. I remember there was a thread you did about the paint code. Did you find out what it was supposed to be?

Re: Some strange holes

I see them now! Are there pins on the back of that trim ring that may use those holes?

Mine does not have the holes? It has a dual tank switch.

Re: Some strange holes

Looks as if at one time it had one of the those spring loaded push button horn switch with the tabs for surface mounting, hence the holes on either side.then having the the wiring fed through the opening.

That makes sense. More than one person may have thought of the same idea.
