well what about power wise, can you tell a difference in throttle response

Re: antbody runnin the msd setup ?
I have a 6AL, but put it on shortly after a rebuild several years ago. I really can't say whether it provides better milage or performance, since I didn't measure performance or milage before installing it.
My best guess, though, is that an HEI or good aftermarket distributor with a quality coil would probably satisfy the needs of at least 95 percent of us. The biggest problem with the stock HEI is that the stock coil starts to fade around 4500 rpm. A good coil will take that number above 6000. I don't know about you guys, but my engine rarely goes over 5000 (those times are fun though!!!). HomerJ

If you use msd carry along the stock hei set-up in the glove box I had the msd box go out and I was walking.....yep it sucked....BTW no milage gains that I could see..

Re: antbody runnin the msd setup ?
from what i can see on a mild(less than 500hp) street driven machine pretty much a waste of money with no real advantages// advertising hype at its best

Re: antbody runnin the msd setup ?
Are you running a HEI set up? My truck has HEI and I took the control module out and the MSD works in it's place. A standard HEI set up put out 45,000 volt. Before I installed the MSD I was fouling out spark plug. Since I installed the MSD I don't have a problem with fouled out plugs. The throttle response did get better but I'm still working on the carb. for adjustment in the jets. I did put bigger spark plug wires on with low resistance to get the most spark to the plugs.

Re: antbody runnin the msd setup ?
I run an MSD box with Protronix ignition modual and a Protronix high out put coil in my 50' Chev. I had a real hard time starting this truck with points. I also would get a slight hesitation under hard acceleration. Once I put in the ignition goodies it started up right away and the hesitation was gone!! My reason for the ignition install was never because of fuel milage so I can't be of help there but MSD is supposed to causes fuel to be burned more completely giving you a bigger bang for your fuel buck and also burns fuel more competely which aids with the pollution issue.

Re: antbody runnin the msd setup ?
check this out
http://www.pertronix.com/ I put one of these HEI flamethrowers in, plug and play replacement. All new parts and it works flawlessly. I hit 7000 rpms and never missed a beat. I think MSD is overrated I have seen too many of my buddies trying to fix, repair or setup...IMO
