1969 chevy to 1965 gmc swap

Hey all...
I have an opportunity to purchase a 1965 gmc truck for $800. the truck is in really good condition, whereas my current 69 is in horrendous condition. it would take me well over $800 to restore my '69, so i was wondering how difficult an engine and tranny swap would be for this. I'm thinkin header clearance and the such. I have the facilities to do the swap, just wonderin about sizing issues. I have a 350 sb and a 350 th tranny. Thanks!

Man, for $800 you can't go wrong if it's solid. Your 350/350 combo will be fine in the '65. Don't know what headers you have but these Hookers will fit '63 to '72 pickups... http://store.summitracing.com/partde...7+4294840140+0

Re: 1969 chevy to 1965 gmc swap

your 69 will use the frontmost motor mount holes in the frame and cross member the 65 will use the rearward holes in the cross member and frame that s all i can think of shouldnt be a problem the frames are the same except for the motor mount stands . (as far as i know )

Re: 1969 chevy to 1965 gmc swap

the headers i have are full length dynomax ceramic coated headers that i have no clearance issues with on my 69. As for the engine mounts, how do i rectify that situation? can i just move the motor mounts? (i'm kinda new at this...in case you couldn't tell.)

Re: 1969 chevy to 1965 gmc swap

well if the 65 has motor stand s use those if it doesnt then you have to find some for that truck i might be able to get some for you . the ones in your 69 will not work i ran into this problem when i swapped frames . come to think of it i have a set of those motor stands but they are powder coated blue . or you get a set of tubular motor stands and convert to the clamshell style motor mounts ccp has a kit i believe so do some other vendors i bought some from a different company before the ccp ones came out , and the ccp ones look much nicer than the ones i have i also just noticed you are in santa ana i am up there all the time , let me know if you want those motor stands they are collecting dust

Re: 1969 chevy to 1965 gmc swap

right now a inline 305 and 4 speed tranny. Im gonna trade the tranny to my friend for helpin me with the swap. The 305 needs to be rebuilt so i'll probably sell it and just see what i can get for it. Tom, i'd love to get those motor mounts from you. PM me and let me know the next time you're gonna be up here and i'll try to work it out.

Re: 1969 chevy to 1965 gmc swap

The 305 was a V-6, not an in-line. If it is an in-line, it's probably a 292.

Re: 1969 chevy to 1965 gmc swap

You're absolutely right, it is just a v-6 not an inline. but the fact it needs to be rebuilt, and i have a brand new just broken in 350 in my current truck makes me just want to do the swap.

Re: 1969 chevy to 1965 gmc swap

That would make the swap more complicated. The motor mount towers are completely different that the V-8 or straight 6 towers. The V-6 with a manual transmission has rear mounts on the bell housing. You will need to remove the crossmember under the bell housing and add a crossmember farther back with a transmission mount. But, you shouldn't have any clearance issues. That V-6 is a lot larger (and heavier!) that a small block Chevy. It can be done if you have all the parts. Those V-6's are really quite some engine. Hate to see one replaced with a 350!
