Re: aluminum vortech heads

never made a factory vortec head in aluminum that will fit a gen 1 sbc...that I'm aware of??? The LS series engines that have the heads I think your referring to share virtually nothing with the gen 1 engines. 96 up 350 vortec's that come in trucks and vans have iron heads that will bolt on a gen 1 sbc if you use a vortec specific intake manifold....have a set on my 84 350 and they work well but are limited in valve lift capability in stock configuration.

Re: aluminum vortech heads

towbar is correct...............you can get the L31 Vortec heads off like a 96 chevy truck and they are bolt on however you have to get a Vortec style intake manifold. Scoggins Dickie as well as others offer them in a high lift option for bigger cams. The factory Vortec heads offer 30-40 hp right off the shelf. Retaining a older style engine and using these heads is a awsome way to get cheap power.

No modern LS based heads (4.8, 5.3, 6.0) will fit first or second generation SBC's.

Check the WIKI at the link above and it will tell you all about them. If somebody has them they will know them as L31 Vortec. Or should I sometimes give to much credit.
