Side Window Glass Won't stay in bottom channel

I tried searching here. I looked in two manuals and didn't see any instructions on how to keep replacement glass from coming out of the bottom support channel (or whatever you call it). When I put it in I didn't have anything better so I used ABS glue that I happened to have in the truck. Came right out and dropped to the bottom as I was walking away!

What is the proper and permanent way to secure side window glass to the metal channel it sits on? Thanks a lot. Brian

Glass setting tape. There are several thicknesses available from the truck shop in orange. I had no luck finding it from any other vendor. You can also purchase it at a glass shop.

you must clean it good and use urethane or silicone let dry and then reinstall

Maybe take it to a windshield shop and have them glue it in with some urethane adhesive? They may only charge you a couple of bucks if they have a bit left over after a windshield install.

Glass tape is the OE solution. Urethane glass adhesive will work too, as will a special glass-setting epoxy. I wouldn't recommend using silicone under any circumstances. It will eventually work free, and it's really hard to get something to stick to glass once silicone has been on it.

Actually Dow 995 Silicone is designed to adhere to glass and metal, we use it in Hurricane impact glazing systems here in Florida.

I've installed thousands of windows and anything less than urethane is a waste of time and money , buy a tube from any glass shop and be done with it .

I don't disagree that silicone is useful in residential or commercial glazing, but most buildings don't go bouncing down the road for tens of thousands of miles every year. If they do, they've probably got problems besides the glazing.

I'm just talking from experience. Every time I would get a call on a leaking windshield, if I pulled up and saw silicone, I knew it was going to be a fight to get the glass to seal.

Besides, there are much better options. Why not just use one of them?

The tape is the proper way to do it, I am sure there are other ways, but this worked for me. Cut the proper length, fold it in the middle, tuck it in the channel. Line up (center) the channel on your glass, and GENTLY tap it on the glass with a small ball peen hammer or mallet. It will NOT come out once set so make sure it is centered properly. I did one side at a time, so as to compare and make sure I kept it centered properly. Good luck!

OK, I'll get some tape. First I guess I have to get all that ABS glue out of the channel. Lacquer Thinner maybe? thx Brian

I have used both the glass tape and weatherstripping adhesive. Carefully use a mallet or a small tack hammer and a few bumps on the bottom to seat it flush with the glass. You can get the metal support strip to far in one direction causing the regulator too bind somewhat.
