Re: 67 - 72 GMC Production Numbers

I don’t understand your question ? You don’t know your truck ID # ? Go look at the vin number on the door or on front frame horn or look at the title....production numbers ?

Re: 67 - 72 GMC Production Numbers

Question was posted lower with more detail. No one answered so I came at a different angle if I had a list like posted for the Chev then I could figure it out
Everyone asks what the model of my truck is and I have no idea. Ive tried to buy parts from a Jobber and twice been asked for an exact model. I have the serial number of course in two places and from the posted list for Chev if there was one for GM then I could figure it out.

How to I find it out?

thanks

Re: 67 - 72 GMC Production Numbers

Your VIN translates to:

TCS14215035xx

T = GMC
C = 2 WD
S = 6 CYL
1 = 3900 - 5800
4 = PICKUP
2 = 1972
1 = BUILT IN OSHAWA

5035XX SERIAL NUMBER STARTING AT 500001

Hope this helps

Most likely a GMC 1500 Sierra which would be a 1/2 Ton. Could you post a couple photos as well? Thanks

Re: 67 - 72 GMC Production Numbers

how do you post here says insert photo and when I click it asks for a URL normally it gives you another option and you can insert a photo. Just on a lark I tried to copy a screen save but kind of already knew that would not work. Will have to be later on.

Re: 67 - 72 GMC Production Numbers

Save the photo to your computer, then use Advanced option thats available lower down page...

your truck seems to be a C1500...but a pic of the truck and SPID will help

See this thread for details on how to post pics...

Re: 67 - 72 GMC Production Numbers

sorry got kidnapped and turned out no one would pay any ransom so dropped me off back at home.

Glove box options though motor changed to 400 small block likely 25-30 years ago. Then I took some stuff off when I got it as well. Im doing something wrong with sizing so have to go back and see what is says about JPEG sizes

Re: 67 - 72 GMC Production Numbers

says maximum JPEG width 642 is this Pixels? So resized to quarter what they were to get 642 width. Ive tried the full size and the smaller resized and get no difference in picture size.

I put two photos on same time and and maybe should have only done one. Just tried it with one and it still says same sizes the truck at 62.3 KB and the Glove box at 29.7 KB Will try a bit more

That is super sweet brother! I'd say you have a 1972 GMC Sierra C1500 1/2 Ton. I have a nice set of fender emblems for it if you're interested. Let me know.

Re: 67 - 72 GMC Production Numbers

On the posting I didnt read the tutorial but did go look at other peoples posts and it was clear I did it all okay. The odd thing is your limit to photo size. Ive been used to you attach a photo and have a choice of sizes or on some if you clic on the photo and if choosen a small photo size you clic and it goes large. Its limiting as you cant read the glove box photo well yet my photo of it is pretty clear.

The photos I had first seen and though larger are larger only tall and not wide. So I was thinking im not getting 100 KB and thats why they are smaller, not so its the width limit you have that is making them small.

Cragars were on it, badging it had I have in the attic as well as rails on the bed on each side and those bumper things on the front and also the large Mirrors with the three arms. I plan on putting on corvette mirrors from around 1970 to a bit older. They are rectangular and the truck is a rectangle, I like the shape and style of those mirrors. From looking before saw two offsets on those. Stuff I removed at the time not sure just felt it was too busy.

ILl have to go up and find the badging someone had stuck on some letters cant remember 350 or 400.

Im probably still confused exactly what to call it when the guy asks im going to email him today I just know one parts place could not identify it and the second wanted a model. I know it was a half ton and bit more but they wanted more. I need to ask them what they have listed when they look.

Thanks for all the stuff you posted and how you read up to the serial number and what each letter means.

Am I safe to call it a GMC C1500 or should Sierra or Custom be there. Are they all Sierras. Sorry if im a bit slow on that aspect. I looked them up and saw Custom in one out of 30 with that word in there.

thanks

w

Really no K10 or Sierra or. When a parts place asks again thats what I tell them.

Mom day today so focus changes getting ready for the journey. Fortunate to have an elderly parent who still has a better memory than me and an off the map good sense of humour.

Ill post later if someone will explain the sizing thing and also how to delete a post. I know its there just not finding it.

Thank you for responding, for 16 years ive had a child with no name.

Re: 67 - 72 GMC Production Numbers

Warren you have a 1972 1/2 Ton two wheel drive GMC pickup. Any parts person that asks you for more information than that is just trying to fill in the spaces his computer is asking him for. I suggest you find yourself another parts house. Now they might ask something like does your pickup have a/c or power brakes or steering ? Normal question ! The custom deluxe package is a trim upgrade over stock equipment.....again you have a very nice GMC...

Re: 67 - 72 GMC Production Numbers

Parts places I use are fine. They are where I get parts for my 92 Roadmaster one sort of having more old stock or older GM stuff. Other is a mini Rock Auto type of place but no where close. Pricing has been good on both and service very good. The truck was out of their comfort zone and I wasnt up on what its called and been told different things not knowing who to believe.

Thanks on the trim upgrade thought I was wondering if that was part of the name from a post. I looked at one of the posts and see 1500 Sierra at the bottom then see another one of his trucks and its Sierra Grande? So is one a short box and one a long box? its a logical question. Im old we had small medium and large, next thing you know im ordering a coffee and its now Grande??? Hell when I grew up we had inches feet and sixteenths and and

I emailed both with no response calling it a 72 GMC C1500 Sierra. Then thinking I should have left the Sierra off. I did ask both what they get in their computer when they look it up.

Guess no one will answer about the SE in the glove box and what that is ill look up the wheel base as there has to be two models of that.

I tried to buy a trailer hitch class V where i got the one for the wally and they can no longer find any for the truck. I ask the parts supplier and he says he just might be able to get one. So as ive always found I have to ask a number of people to figure things out. I did mufflers recently and went to three places before I found who I wanted. I called about leaf springs recently to a place recommended by two guys with old trucks and he had little interest. So its not all cut and dry.

And just to keep things confusing, I see this in my files on Emblems. Just added an image to a post I already made, progress I think its Save and not Submit
