Need Spring Info - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Membership to this board is the best buy I've found! You folks are all great.

I want to lower my '68 Step Side - "just so I don't see so much above the tires", kind of lowered. I am really leaning toward 4" drop coils at the rear, and 3" drop coils at the front. I am sure someone has done this and I'm wondering if there might be a picture or two that someone could post.

I looked through FAQs and didn't see what I was lookiing for.

Hey Roland,

I have a 2/4 drop on my '68. I got my springs from EarlyClassic and I'm very pleased with them. They lowered my truck but retained the ability to still haul stuff and actually use it as a truck. A buddy of mine got some springs made overseas somewhere and they are pitiful. Just standing in the back almost bottoms the bed out.

I would use drop spindles in the front to get your drop. From what I have read this is how most prefer to drop the front.

Using drop springs in front requires realignment.Usually this means a fairly large shim pack.Most shops don't like to use lots of shims and most suspension people don't either.There is a sense that a large shim pack means the bolts are longer and have more leverage thus making broken bolts a possibility.Even though spindles are more expensive you can also upgrade to disc brakes with them.There are several ways to go about this and most have threads in the FAQ section.

Spindles are really the right way to go. I just didn't want to get stuck with drop spindles. I wanted the ability to go back up if for any reason I wanted to raise it. Silly me

I actually like the color. It's sorta blue/green. All my buddies call it teal which really pisses me off

Actully for now since I don't have much time I'm going to fix a coupla rust spots and just flat it black until the summer. Then I'll try to paint it.

Everything else on it is done though. Motor, trans, suspension, disc brake conversion, glass, wheels....etc
