Brand Loyalty

OK Gang, let's hear it...... How many different vehicles do you own and what are the makers ? When I say vehicles I mean those which you have all or most parts of, are in the process of rebuilding or have in the driveway/garage/back yard. A picked over cab that you've got left from the last build is not what I have in mind.

I've got Fords , Chevys and Pontiacs . No rice allowed on my piece of terra firma. What about you ?

Re: Brand Loyalty

Have they made any nice Colorodos?

My longhorn is all that i own... with that being said, i would not own a new GM, they suck, so don't think of me as brand loyal... brand loyalty sucks IMO.
I'd even do an import again... I probably wouldn't be too happy about it, but I'd do it again.

Same here, every brand has made some awesome cars and trucks, and every brand has had their total stinkers. I like to keep it American made but anymore that's almost a misnomer, "american" cars are being made overseas as much as over here, and "foreign" cars have plants all over America now, so a true "american made" car doesn't seem to exist anymore.

Re: Brand Loyalty

old Chevy/GMC, new Dodge, new Chrysler, and a lone fairly new Mazda

I'd buy a new GM truck, but I'd rather build my own for less out of a COOL body style......Not one that looks like it should be in "A Bugs Life".

Re: Brand Loyalty

1. 1972 Chevelle Malibu. Paid $650 on July 17, 1984. Still own it. Will own it the day I die.
2. 1972 Chevelle Malibu 4-door. Paid $200 for it in 1987. Sold it to my brother for $50 in 1991.
3. 1971 Chevelle Malibu 2-door. Got it free. Got it running. Took the starter for #1. Gave it away.
4. 1976 Delta 88. 455 engine. 8 gallons to the mile. Bought it from an old man to drive while painting #1 in 1986. Gave it to my little brother.
5. 1971 Monte Carlo. Best car I've ever owned. Hands down. Got rusty. Parted it for #1. Junked the BADLY rusted body in 2003.
6. 1971 Chevelle Malibu convertible. Paid $1100 for it in 1989. Painted it in 1990. Still own it. Will own it the day I die.
7. 1971 Chevelle Malibu. Got it for $200. Sold it for the same.
8. 1977 Impala. Got it with a bad engine for $200. Put 307 out of #1 into it. Gave it to my little sister with the understanding that the 307 comes back to me. That car was scrapped in 1996. 307 is in my shop on a stand.
9. 1984 Ford Tempo. Paid $400. Good mileage. Blew the engine. Bought another low mile engine for $400. Sold it in 1994 for $100.
10. 1970 C10 cab and box on a 1971 K10 chassis. Still own it. Reason why I'm typing this here.
11. 1994 Ford Escort LX. First new car. I ordered it the way I wanted it. 257,xxx miles and counting. NEVER less than 34 miles to the gallon. Usually 38-40mpg. THE BEST ECNO CAR EVER MADE. $10,352.94 with tax and license (a-plan through my dad). I want to get 300,000 before I move on. If I knew in 1993 how good the car was going to be I'd have ordered 2 of them and stared using #2 about now.
12. 1998 Ford Explorer. 2nd new car. Nice ride. 4.0 V6 was a piece of crap. Timing chains took the whole engine out at 35,641 on the clock, yes 350 miles before the warranty was out. New engine installed by Ford. Sold it in 2004.
13. 2004 Ford Explorer. 3rd brand new car. Nice ride. Went with the V8 this time. Gets better mileage than the 6 (20 mixed, 23 highway) . The 1998 V6 NEVER got 20. Bigger than '98. More stable than '98. Pulls my boat better than the '98.

Thats all of them. All of this is from memory dating back to July 17th, 1984. You can tell a car guy by his ability to remember the day he bought his first car - and if you ask my wife, my inability to remember dates like birthdays and anniversaries.

I guess you could say I'm loyal. I'm loyal to early 70's GMs and modern Fords.

Re: Brand Loyalty

No, GM doesn't reward brand loyalty, nor do their dealers... oops, that wasn't exactly the question

Just inherited a '74 Dodge Maxivan - great place to store Chevy parts!
Some BMWs laying around and the unstoppable Chevy C/10. Wouldn't mind some '74 or earlier Chevy car - '65 - '72 being ideal, but looks like I may be looking for a car to stick that dodge 360 engine in - preferably a 67-69 barracuda.
