im bulding a 350 with vortec heads. im using a cyclone spread bore intake that says that it wont work with factory gaskets and that i should use a fel-pro #1255 or equivalent. i have already bought and used a felpro top end gasket kit on the engine but havent put the intake on yet. what is the difference in the gaskets? the ones in the kit look like they will work just fine.

Aluminum intakes tend to have sealing issues.

Edelbrock makes a suggestion on what gaskets to use or not use. I would follow the MFG reccomendation, as it's their product, they know exactly what works best with it.

They std fel-pro gasket have a steel ring in them and wil dimple your aluminum intake and MAY cause leaks. Use the silcone beaded intake gaskets and you'll be just fine.

i never use the plastic factory gaskets, they suck. however if you flip the intake over and put the plastic gasket onto the intake you will probably see that the rear coolant passage is smaller than the gasket. Therefore the felpro gasket is required

well, im using a felpro gasket now, but i dont think that its the specific 1255 gasket. also the ones that i have now are the black plastic ones that have red rubber around all of the passages.

The best way I have found for aluminum intakes is to use the thick Felpro # 1255 gasket and coat it with Gaskicinch torque to 13 Lbs. Good seal will result. Good luck.
