Decisions to make...
I recently purchased a 67' SWB from Bagged74. This is going to be my "Recession Rod" of sorts. I'm in great debate on some things. I bought the anti-rattle kit and door rubbers yesterday and threw a rebuilt kit at the carb. I want to keep it somewhat low budget. I thought about boosting the drum brakes and doing a 3/5 drop. Or I could convert to 5 lug and disc front and do a 4/6. I like the steelies but the center caps aren't my style, maybe some chrome police caps. As far as a stereo goes I'm thinking deadhead that requires a MP3 player so I can keep the radio delete and glove box empty. Lastly a tilt wheel to boot and maybe do a floor shifter. If you have any input that would be appreciated. Once Ive made some choices I will start a project thread and keep it updated. Thanks. Toby.

Re: Decisions to make...
Keep the patina!!
id say a 4/6 w/ a disc swap, go 5 lug. chrome wheel caps would look good. as for the stereo id say do it to what you want. its an auto correct? a nice floor shifter would brighten things up. any interior/engine pics?

Re: Decisions to make...
It's a cool starter Lawson. How bout baby moons on your steelies and white walls with some drop for now? That will get ya started. Some springs front and rear aren't too expensive new and you can find them on the parts for sale forum too.

Re: Decisions to make...
I likewise have the same project going. Mine is 1 67 LWB. It also has the small rear window. Another thing to think about is going to 5 lugs? Your baby probaly has 6 lugs all around & if you go to a 5 lug like wanted to, you have3 to do something to make the back a 5 lug. Here is what I started to do & did some of it. I went to CCP & got their Grand Slam. It drop the baby to 2 1/2 front & 4 in back. It also has the disk change over set up & I ent with the 5 lug set up. Took 2 weeks to figure out, not a good deal since it was going to cost $100 min to $350 max to either redrill the rotors, change the shafts to a 5 lug = $125 per whel + interal parts? I ended up returning the 5 lugs & paying $100 for the 6 lugs. I since then have bought Boyd tires & wheels & await the 6 lugs which should be here Friday. A lot to do to get it ready for the Woodward Dream Cruise!! Howard

Re: Decisions to make...
[The only reason this thing isn't in my driveway is that small back window ]
That can be remedied.

Re: Decisions to make...
someone else on here said that the other day to ? am I getting old or something ? the small back glass is what makes a 67 ! that was one of my mandatory option's when I was hunting for a 67 project , if my 67 would have had the big back glass I would have left it sitting there !

Re: Decisions to make...
Tracy offered the truck to me before he put it on the market. He and I talked several times about what to do with it.
I would definitely convert to power discs up front. My preference would be to use 73-87 parts sp you could do a DJM 3" spindle, and a cut coil. For the rear, I would use conversion axles to go 5 lug, an ECE trackbar, 2" blocks and bags. For wheels, I would go with painted steelies in a pewter/silver that matches the interior. Add your favorite poverty caps. Shake parts (not stirred or blended)to perfection, and enjoy...

Re: Decisions to make...
I have the the disc spindles, rotors and calipers off a 72' . I have the upper and lower arms, spindles, etc... off a 81' wheels and rear end. If I do a 5 lug Im going to do a 20/22. Sticking with the 6 lug would save me from buying some wheels. Yeah steel bed in it.

Re: Decisions to make...
Cool truck!!
BTW - small back window is WAY cooler than those lousy big back window trucks that you see on every corner.

Re: Decisions to make...
Not trying to hate, just my preference. Just the opposite of your preference, I passed on a great deal for that reason.

Re: Decisions to make...
IMO...
- 4.5/6 drop - keep the 6-lug setup (opt for ECE 6-lug discs) - keep it manual brakes - keep the steelies - add your favorite caps Great buy on the '67!

Re: Decisions to make...
72BlckButy Im waiting for your truck to be on the ground so I can get a good look at how yours turned out. Im trying to stick to a low budget. So I might do the CPP 3/4 w/shocks for $300. and change all the fluilds. If anything Id like to do a bigger rallye wheel like a 17" and keep it somewhat stock appearance. I think Im going to get it stripped. Still in debate about louvering the hood since I would have to put it in primer after the fact. Getting close to doing something soon.

Re: Decisions to make...
Bought a 3/4 drop with shocks the other day. Im thinking if I need another inch in the rear I could use a block.
The question now is to keep it on the tree or floor. If I go floor I might do a 4 speed. Last edited by lawson87; 08-08-2009 at 10:11 AM. |
