So I walked into NAPA today...

...I was looking for the piece of hose and the T-fitting that attaches my new brake booster to the intake manifold.

Guy behind the counter rapped on the computer for what seemed like 10 minutes. "Err... Um... I don't think we can get that. Says it's 11/16" hose."

Hello?

Anybody have a source/part number for such a simple part? (I'm getting sick of the folks at all of the local parts suppliers giving me the BLANK STARE when I tell them I'm looking for something for a "1979 C10"

Re: So I walked into NAPA today...

That's the sign of the times , it could be sitting on the counter but if it's not in the computer they don't have it . Try to talk to the older guys or the manager they have it 3/4".

Re: So I walked into NAPA today...

I was looking for the booster hose a few years ago... the good old thick wall stuff that doesn't collapse from the vacuum. I figured I'd have a tough time finding it. The guy in a less modern parts store in Eagle River, WI, said, "I think we have some of that". Sure enough.

If you are still looking for the intake fitting try this link.
http://www.parts123.com/corvettecent...&searchtype=50

EDIT; Had problems with the link. Think it's fixed now.

Re: So I walked into NAPA today...

It seems to me that parts people nowadays came directly from Mcdonalds or burger king for their second job, there are parts stores I will not deal with because of idiots behind the counter

My best NAPA story - I walked in and said, "I need spark plugs for a 97 Ford E350 5.4 liter."

The NAPA guy says, "Is that gas or diesel?"

The booster hose on my 69 appears to be 11/16" OD and 5/16" ID if that helps.

Re: So I walked into NAPA today...

I call, order a non - engine oil cooler radiator, pick it up a few days later and remind the counter guy it should be the non - engine oil cooler style. He checks part number says I'm all set. Should have seen his face when I opened the box on the counter and told him wrong one. By coincidence we have the same last name and he ordered me the correct one with a family discount.

Re: So I walked into NAPA today...

i have had issues with other part stores but here where i am, napa is the only place i deal with. But with that being said, my dad use to manage this store and so i tell them the part number or find it myself and we dont have an issue. there are a few that know their stuff, but DO NOT try to find anything on the weekends. pointless. might as well ask your fairy godmother to drop it off

Thanks to those who helped with my search for these pieces.

I'm not sure why this thread was moved to the general section, but whatever...

Re: So I walked into NAPA today...

The fitting you are looking for is difficult to find. I looked at all the local box stores, the 2 specialty stores (now closed) and nada. I ordered one from Summit.

LocDoc posted a google linc. Notice that the only box store listed, has the WRONG part! So, yea, I would say you are going to have a problem getting the vac T from AutoZone.

A few years back 67chevyredneck had the same problem. So when I say we are all in this together, I really mean it!

Talking Re: So I walked into NAPA today...

Yeah, seen this lots of times, went into a parts store looking for small block Chevy valve cover gaskets, gave the counter dude like eight examples of Chevy cars/trucks said they didn't have any, looked over at their performance section and there were no less than 10 setting on the shelf!...guess if you want a person who knows his stuff, you need to look for the seasoned veteran parts counter guy who's been around, and run the other way when you see the high school kid scratching their head while looking at the computer screen....

Re: So I walked into NAPA today...

I went into Napa for spindle nuts for my Dana 44. "Oh we can order them for you" OK let's do it. How much are they?

She said, $23.99 for the 3 pieces on one side. But they would be coming freight and I can't tell you how much that will be but it could be anywhere from $5.99 on up. I wouldn't know till they get here.

Um OK I'll look somewhere else, thanks.

On another note and another local store.
I asked for screw/bolt in heavy duty metal valve stems for my 8 lug wheels. Oh yeah I have them $8. A peice.
He brought out those decortive sleeves you slide over rubber valve stems for astetics.
"What color would you like?

Oh well.

Sorry just had too.

Hit the junk yards for the fitting. Whenever I scrap and engine I keep various fittings and such

I guess I'm lucky, the guys, at my local parts house, most of the time know their stuff, it doesn't bother them at all when I ask them for older parts.

It took me 4 different stores just to get a black distributer cap. All were gray dark gray or blue.

I think a lot of the lack of normal parenting has too do with the way the economy has been with both parents needing too work full time jobs. And having more work time than home time.
But like I said normal parenting there are a lot who just don't care.

Pushing buttons and staring at screens are turning kids into brainless zombies who don't want too learn too use there hands for anything else but buttons, cause it's too hard.
This does not apply too all kids though.

I have one auto store "the closest one" I won't step foot in anymore.

Re: So I walked into NAPA today...

then of course there's the highway robbery some of the chain store do. I was working on a guy's 250cc scooter on Saturday and needed a 194 bulb. Autozone is like 1 1/2 blocks from me so I slid in there. $5 for a pair?! I don't think so. I drove a mile to one of my shop's vendors and got a single bulb for 57 cents
