Re: Quick easy horsepower

I don't know about the inexpensive part. When it comes to horsepower, there's no substitute for "cubic dollars"

"NITROUS OXIDE" best bang for the buck only there when you need it.

Re: Quick easy horsepower

How about some stickers and a big a$$ wing on the back, that should be good for 100HP or so.

Easy things you can do is get an electric fan like already mention and a electric water pump, that will free up horse power that you lose driving those components. To add power, how about an intake and carb, it can be done for around $500. If you got more money ready to spend go with some performance heads with all of the above mods and you'll have a good bit more power.

Electric components don't necessarily increase hp. The electric device (pump or fan) is driven by 12-volt power that comes from the alternator which is turned by a belt. You just moved the load from one belt-driven device to another. You also have losses due to the conversion of mechanical-power to electrical-power, then back to mechanical-power.

Re: Quick easy horsepower

The most horsepower will be gained with good flowing heads, intake and exhaust. Having the proper camshaft for the application is also critical.

Not sure what motor you have, but if it is an older v8,a set of vortec heads, intake, and good exhaust would be hard to beat!

Now there is thinking outside the box! I took so much weight off the front of my Camaro that when I put the BBC in a couple of days ago, the front springs didn't even budge. Gunna have to cut to level the stance.

Re: Quick easy horsepower

Depends on how easy and how quick you want it to be. A rear gear change to a lower ratio won't add any actual horsepower but it will make your engine pull like it's had the hp bumped up. For instance changing from a 3.08 gear to a 3.73 is very noticeable. Yes fuel mileage will suffer with a lower gear but no more than putting power adders on your engine.

Re: Quick easy horsepower

Intake, exhaust, heads and cam would be the biggest improvement. The key is to match the parts to each other. You also want to build for use.Don't expect a single plane intake,a radical cam and 1100 CFM carb to make your 350 a great street motor. One thing many people overlook when building a performance motor is to make sure the platform is solid. If the block, rings and pistons aren't up to the task, you will wind up with a great Boat anchor.Another point to consider is tuning.Even the best parts matched well will not make good power without being tuned well.

It depends on how you define quick, inexpensive, and easy. There's no magic bullet; going fast is going to cost you time and money. The faster you want to go, the more it's going to cost you.
