A lil (more)help please

I need a PS pump bracket, it needs to bolt up to the 1963 283. There are only 2 holes in the block. My buddy Dave says he can fab something but it would be better to have an OEM bracket. Here is a pic of the block mounting holes.

I've got differential covers ordered.

I really need a power steering bracket if you have any idea where I can order. I've tried LMC I've tried Summit no luck there. I'm not having any luck locally anybody got any further ideas maybe got one in the junkpile?

Thanks

Re: A lil (more)help please

I don't happen to have any extra good ones. Just in case you did not know, any cover from a truck 12 bolt will work. They were used in the C10's from '63-'82 and in the K5's and K10's from '63-'79/'80. I believe you can find a chrome one at Summit if nothing else.

Re: A lil (more)help please

Well I just ordered front & rear covers and gaskets. Hope I got the right ones. It's hard for me to tell by looking at the pictures.

As long as you ordered a cover for a truck 12 bolt, you will be fine for the rear diff. I don't remember just what year of front differential you got, but it seems like it was an '80 something. In that case, you will need a cover for a 8.5 corporate 10 bolt for the front diff. If it is a '79 and earlier it will be a Dana 44.

Re: A lil (more)help please

We decided to replace the water pump to the long nose style that has the 3rd hole for the ps bracket. I liked that idea since this pump was 25 years old, or there about.

Re: A lil (more)help please

If you change to the long water pump, you will also have to move the alternator to the passenger side. You will need those brackets, and also move the alternator wiring to the passenger side.

Re: A lil (more)help please

If you're willing to consider an aftermarket setup, Alan Grove offers the 402L which I believe will work in your application. I've been using their power steering and alternator brackets for over 10 years. They are relatively inexpensive, well built, and provide perfect alignment. Here are a few applicable links:

Re: A lil (more)help please

If you went with a long pump then try looking at vans. When I was running my 283 I got a pump and bracket from a van. The diff was the upper part of the bracket bolted up to the front left exaust hole. Too bad I never took pictures of it but I still have the pump and bracket sitting in a bucket. I think it came out of a 1975 chevy van. I have a picture if it hooked up to my later model 350 though. I'm not sure if this will work with the alt on the same side.

Re: A lil (more)help please

$39.00 for both brackets, the lower part that bolts to the front of the engine and craddles the pump and the rear part that bolts to the pump and engine mount that adjusts the belt. new pulley is around 30 bucks, Truck shop has all kinds of stuff the others don't
