what radiator you guys using? BB guys?

hello all,

I need to find a nice rad. that fits well and will be able to cool my built bbc even in the middle of summer. Im going to be using dual electric fans but need to be able to keep my motor under 170*

what do you guys think of the be cool rads besides price? anyone have one? hows the fit and finish?

my options i figured are:

2 core high flow aluminum rad.

or

4 core copper rad.

Just looking for something to fit like stock and keep my built bb cool

Thanks

Re: what radiator you guys using? BB guys?

If I built a BB and wanted a new radiator,I wopuld look for a 4 core aluminum.I would also use an electric fan set up.Even though that's an expensive option,I think after spending the $$$ to build a BB I would want to protect my investment.
I don't have any experience with the Be Cool's but they have a great rep just kinda pricey.

Re: what radiator you guys using? BB guys?

i dont know of anyone who makes a 4 core aluminum rad. also with aluminum rads they normally have more cooling tubes and fins the problem with going to a 4 core is there is to many cooling fins that it actually hinders the air flow and cooling

Thanks for the idea though

mines the original 4core brass unit and it keeps mine cool. But i think id rather have an aluminum but not sure if it would cool as good as this old 4core or not. I also have one electric fan behind it.

I have a refurbished, stock four core radiator with a stock fan in the white truck and had some issues until I put a fan shroud on it. After that no more issues... 170º seems a little cool to me. A local mechanic recommended I use at least a 185º thermostat in mine (454, mild cam/th400).

I've got a 454, 4 core, and Lincoln MK8 fan. So far, so good. Last summer was no problem. This summer we'll see since I have my a/c up and running now.

I'm using a stock heavy duty 4-core from GMC Paul's. I have a stock 350 with a 180 degree thermostat. I don't race but I'll tell you what- I can run at speed limit (or as close as she can make) all the way up Arizona mountain grades, in summer, a/c full blast, with my boat in tow and never worry about the temp. gauge. You should be ok in Jersey with that.

I have an aluminum Griffen in mine and haven't had any problems. It fit perfectly except I had to get new brackets and carriages because I had a 2 core in it. You can easily get them from the vendors, LMC had the cheapest prices at the time.

Have a stock radiater in my 70 with 454 --- stays at 185 - 195 in summer in az -- even in town with AC on! Run stock clutch fan with shroud. Big blocks need a little heat for best performance.

This set up is your best bet. Factory crossflow for BBC and fan shroud. Also another thing to remember is in order for the fan shroud to work properly the fan must be positioned 1/2 way in the fan shroud. In other words if you sighted down the fan shroud looking from the top the fan shroud would dissect the fan blades in half. If the fan is to far in or out it will not perform to its peek.
