Lightbulb Just in case

I ran across this starter yesterday @ O-Riley's Auto parts. This is a stock item that they carry. It's a direct replacement mini starter for our trucks. This thing is only 1 1/2lbs and it has the strength of the full size delco starter.
I installed it yesterday while it was raining so I haven't drove it yet but it looks like it should be fine. It's got at least 3" of clearance all the way around it form the exhuast. I fired it up a couple of times and it had no noise or grinding. I used a 3/16" & 1/16" chim with 3 washers on each bolt so it would tighten down.
If your having trouble like me this is a good choice I think!

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Just in case

According to my receit it's a
USL 32390 Starter limited lifetime warrinty. I called O-riley to check and it's for a 91 Caddy and up. This is for a stagard bolt pattern starter. The number is correct for it though!

That's it. So far so good. This is a powerful little buger. I can't tell any differance in it over the old Delco starter.

Re: Just in case

I was told these ministarters have ball bearings instead of bronze bushings on each end and they just about dont' wear out. Is this the gear reduction type?

Re: Just in case

I have one that looks just like it, it is for a 1995 Chevy 4 wheel drive with a 350 engine and manual transmission.

They are great little starters and as you said readily available from most auto parts stores.

Re: Just in case

I think they maybe more expensive than the large stock ones. I got mine from my brother and had it rebuilt for $70.

Another thread about starter problems, see my response.
The one in the picture has staggered bolt mounting, which can flex under load (I have seen back end of starter actually move under load).

Lightbulb Re: Just in case

You need to call the store and see. I know they work on the v-6 4.3 engines so they may. They have a couple of them that are for differant applications.

At least some of the sixes do not have one of the mounting holes needed for a staggered bolt starter. Look at the bottom of your block where the starter mounts. If you see three holes, it will work. If it has only two holes you will need to use the type of mini-starter that has inline mounting holes.

Thumbs up Re: Just in case

This thread is almost 10 years old I know but I have some updated info for this starter.

I went to O-Reilly's last week to get another one and they said the number had been dropped. They only had the regular replacement starter. The big heavy one. Well after doing some searching I found the starter again and they do have them in stock. I remembered it was for a Cadillac but not what vehicle.

2000 Cadillac Escalade with 5.3

Also found that most GM 4.3 have this same starter.

It is only 9lbs compared to the 30 lbs the normal one weigh's. It has plenty of torque to and room for headers and the ramhorns.

You may have to look at a different part number. This one is for automatic's. I'm sure they would have one for the 4.3. This one has the angled bolt holes not the straight across ones.
