Re: Cleaning house......another one to the crusher

My son, twin grandsons and I did a little house clean today also.

We had a real rusted '63 frame we set a swiss cheese '69 long bed on and then we put a gutted '73 cab on it.

We called an old guy we know that collects scrape.

He came and picked every thing up a little later.

I HIGHLY doubt you would have paid to have rusted out bent fenders shipped to California!! Lets not be so quick to judge until we know what we are talking about!

The truck was eat up with rust, drivers fender and all front suspension was wrecked, bed was shot, tailgate was rusted out and broken. The only good parts off the truck were the engine and transmission (we used it), rear end (we saved it) all the interior (we used it), wheels and tires (saved them) and the hood and doors (sold them). You "out west-no rust zone" guys would have turned your nose up at it quicker than I do with a 6 cyl 3 speed truck! I had the entire truck listed for sale for $200 on and off for 6 months after we took the running gear out and no one even asked about it!!! So after all the parts I sold and the scrap price I made over $400 and got an entire interior and running gear and got it out of my way!

You still think it was a waste?

At this moment most of what we have is being saved for future projects.....board member UNCLE and SOUTHERN PARTS in Conyers have plenty of stuff. Southern Parts is active on the site and if you want UNCLES info PM me...he does not have a computer at this time.

Re: Cleaning house......another one to the crusher

See as how Im only 4'7" tall, If I had gotten it over my head it would have been well over 5' in the air Jimmy.

Scraping the truck was no waste fellas, the frame was bent from a front end collision (PO's daughter wrecked it...go figure), cab roof was rusted trough and in overall poor condition. This truck will live on in other projects for sure...I think there are some brakets under my hood as we speak and the 350 is sitting in a '73 blazer. Waste is not a work we use 'round here...

Re: Cleaning house......another one to the crusher

HEY 72
I know what you are talking about. I have 2 barns full of parts and sometimes you have to 'thin out the herd'. I had a 72 I bought for $100. I stripped everything that was usable and scrapped the rest.Put it out front of the farm with a 'free' sign and no takers,,,,bye-bye.Ya can't keep everything and when ya offer it to somebody, they expect ya ta haul it to them,,,I don't think so.If ya don't live in a state where they salt the heck out of the roads,ya just don't understand how bad these vehicles get after 38 years of abuse.-KB

They would have been perfect for a rusty northern wintertime snow and mud truck. You would probably not have been able to bolt the drivers side up to the cab because of the lower body damage on the fender ......but I tell you what.....send me about $200 for shipping and $50 for 2 fenders and i will make sure you get a set that is in the same condition or a little better!
