Gas tank with license plate fill
Ive searched through 3 pages of posts and haven’t found what I’m looking for. We have the rear blazer tank in now but we’re wanto to change it to a tank with the filler neck behind the plate.
I know it been done but can’t find any info on which tank to use that will fit between the frame rails. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. |

Re: Gas tank with license plate fill
I believe some people used a 69 Camaro tank.

Made in Canada eh! Shocking as I didn't think we made anything anymore. Live long enough you will learn. Have a good one.

A camaro tank will not fit between the rails. It will mount up underneath the frame and allow you to refuel from behind the license plate. |

Re: Gas tank with license plate fill
bend WAY over or squat down & fill 'er up.... not GM's greatest design achievement. Just one old fat guy's opinion. I've owned them for 50+ years. Unhandy design even before I was old & fat.

Re: Gas tank with license plate fill
I have two cars with the rear fill tanks (67 GTO and 67 Mustang) and I HATE THE DESIGN.
Squating to fill and listen when they are close to full, only being able to fill on less than the lowest pump handle setling, spilling gas at the station, and not to mention the spillage when you drive them with any acceleration. It's a bad idea, but you have some chances of improving the design with a truck if the fill neck can be longer and several inches higher than the tank. I would look into adding a backsplash device of some sort. Definetly do your homework.

Re: Gas tank with license plate fill
I’ve found a Camaro tank on eBay for $140 with sending unit. But the description says no vent so I assume I need a vented gas cap? That should keep the fuel flowing yes?
