the main diffrence is the part at the front of the lid, where it either has seatbelt pockets, or cupholders.

the are identicle other than that, i personally like the cupholder style bettter, so i have a place to put my cans

69 - 72 is the same as 73 - 76-ish. The only thing that is not the same, is the badge on the lid, a blue bow tie for 69 - 72, and yellow for 73 - 76-ish. After that, they went to the cup holder style till sometime in the 80's

Re: Difference between center console

I just pulled the center console [and seats] out of an '86 Jimmy. It has square cup holders. (For 3 packs of cigarettes each?) No emblem and provision for a keyed lock.
Will the holes match the floor mounts of a '71 Jimmy?

A big difference between the pre-`76 style and the cupholder style is the top 1/2 of the earlier style is one piece and the cupholder is two.
The square hole style wouldn`t necessarily have the same bolt pattern, but will fit.Let us know what you find.

It's a junkyard score for some future application. Maybe my '67 Suburban. I also got the '86 Blazer seats. They don't adjust, but the passenger seat unhooks from this bracket in the deck and pitches forward. Only drawback is the seats and console are this deep corinthian burgundy color. Did I mention I hate burgundy? But I figure vinyl dye comes in spray cans for a reason.
