That looks like a good idea! Can I use your idea if mine shakes?

Re: mod to alternator bracket. no more shaking!

In the second picture, it appears that the two pulleys
are not in alignment. It you place some washers or
spacers behind the bracket, it will move it alternator
and bracket away from the head and line it up.

Could this be the difference between a long and short
water pump? I am not sure. It would be better to have
the two pulleys in line.

It's the angle of the pic, it's perfect if you're looking at it from the side directly.

Hey Jtrux, I agree with EdB on this. If you look at the fan/water pump pulley you will see that the belt is pulling at a slight angle. I had the same thing when I converted my 250 to power steering. Took a few washer shims and tinkering but finally got it fairly straight.

I'd double check that just to make sure. What you will notice, if it's off, is that the belt will start squeeling at you prematurely.

I agree.......Here are 2 pictures of mine using the same brackets. Except the top adjustment bracket has 2 angle bends. No spacers were used.

Trust me, I was there, it's the angle of the camera.

Re: mod to alternator bracket. no more shaking!

Another easy fix/cure is to find an identicle upper bracket and double'em up, intalled back to back of one another.

This is a perfect mod.Great idea. You should have been working for GM.I`ve seen fatigued/broken lower brackets before, too. All the lateral support is in those since they are cast and rigid.
