I met a guy in a parking lot with a 72 Gmc Sierra Grande with factory air ( very rare to have a/c around here) and of course I had to chat with him about our trucks. He mentioned in the converstion that he knew a guy in BC that had a 72 Cheyenne ( which be bought from the USA) with the factory clock option. I asked where it was on the gauge pod and he said it was where the vacumn gauge went. I have never heard of a factory clock in our trucks. Does anyone know if one was available from the factory?

i've seen a few dealer installed clocks that looked like little pedistile mount tachs installed on top the dash over the years in vans and trucksfrom the late 60's early 70's i think there was a clock from an impala that mounted in the console that some guys had installed in the dash// but never heard of a factory option in dash clock

The dash on my 71 does not have a clock but... next to the column on the right , the original plastic lens does have about an 1/8 inch hole in it from what I remember from then was the clock adj. stem. The back plate has no provision for a vac guage or clock which tells me someone while putting the cluster together put the wrong lens in it.

Jeez, my brother is picking up a 68 CST in a couple of weeks, and in the 7 guage cluster, right where the vacuum guage goes there is a clock with the little adjuster sticking out of the lense!
I told him I've never seen this before 1973, and I've been around these trucks my whole life. Maybe it was a "rare" option?

in the 40 years these trucks have been out im sure alot of people put clocks in em.... in 40 years from now, people are going to talking about the C10's with the rare airbag suspension they found at the junk yard

You're prolly right 1LoC10.
The clock does look identical to the later "square body" GM truck clocks. I just thought it was pretty cool coincedence that the one Already Gone spoke about was also located in the vacuum guage hole. But when you think about it, that's usually the hole without a guage at all, and an obvious choice to mount a clock. It's the vacuum guage that is the true "rare option"

I found a website a couple of years ago, something like "clockdoc". On his homepage he had one of our clusters with a clock in the vac spot. He wasn't claiming OE, just "looks like OE". And it did look good.

Al's right. It looks OE. As soon as my bro gets his 68, I'll post up a pic. I may even sneek a peek behind the cluster to see how it was mounted. Might as well add it to my list of mods to my own truck...

acording to the factory books, there was NEVER anything installed in that blank hole in 10 - 30 series trucks.
No vac, no clock, no canooter valve guage... no flux capaciter... nothing.

around here there are a few trucks with "factory" clocks. an older gentleman i know used to do them for the dealerships when the the trucks were new. since people purchased the trucks from the dealer with the clock installed, i'm sure they assumed the clock was "factory" installed. if i remember correctly, he used corvette clocks.

I had a gauge panel built for me by board member 70c10. He put a clock in it for me. I think its a nice addition...Course if anyone asks Im going to tell em its an ultra rare factory option

that's right cets... the canootervalve guage isn't stock.
They used dummy lights.

Sorry, maybe I should have put some quotation marks around "looks OE". I know it wasn't factory installed. But it looks damn good stuck in that hole.

I never did understand why they didn't add the clock as a factory option, many other vehicles from that era and earlier had them. I can imagine there were some involved with the design and development that pushed for it but for whatever reason it didn't get added. I'll bet there was a reason but we will probably never know.

Thanks for all the replies. If I ever get to see a "factory" clock in one of our trucks I'll take a pic and see if it shows on the Data Plate. I'm gonna check this out further and see if I can contact the guy with the supposidly "factory clock" and see if I can get him to email me a pic which I will gladly share with all of you.

You know what would probably be better than a clock would be gauge showing run-time hours.The time a motor has been run always seemed like a better gauge for a maintenance schedule than miles driven.

No clocks,period.All my trucks have come with the worthless mock 7th gauge option.What you need to ask the guywith the factory clock to see the option listed.The rarest options would e the ones that were`t available.

I put those under the hood since you don`t need to monitor run time on a minute to minute basis.But,I agree they are the best way to truly monitor maintainence.

I agree again! If the guy shows you a label with a clock It will be a fake, it could never be proven real as none of the original factory/dealer documentation have an option code for a clock listed.
