Body Shops in the Des Moines Iowa Area

I'm looking for a good body shop that doesn't specialize in insurance work.

I know, that's like finding a lawyer that doesn't hand out business cards at the scene of an accident.

I want to get the cab corners on my truck replaced. I'm doing other metal work, but i think cab corners my be a bit above my head compared to the other stuff i'm shaving / replacing. That, and i did some sanding on one of the cab corners and found that it has already been replaced. I ass-u-me-d it was factory, but the PO did one of those over lap jobs on it. problem is, it's in to far and makes the door appear to stick out. So i'm also concerned that the rocker is not mounted correctly.

what do you guys think? should i just man up and jump into the job head first or find a shop?

if i take it to a shop, what kind of rate should i expect? no paint. just r/r and paint prep.

I don't know of too many shops that work on stuff like our trucks. Really the cab corners aren't that hard. My dad and I did mine. Once you get the tricks figured out it is relatively easy. You do need some patience though. The normal aftermarket cab corners do not fit correctly. You have to start on the back of the cab and tack the panel and then work the curve around the corner so that it matches the original, nevermind where the door jam lines up at the moment. tack on around the corner and then rebend the panel to line up with the door jamb. You will end up with extra metal prolly 3/8 or so to trim off. If you start at the door jamb the curve will not line up and you will have a panel that sticks out 3/8. If that made any sense. Panels from a company like goodmark may not have this problem.

anyone else have feedback on a company that i should get the cab corners from? even if i take it to a shop, i want to take a quality part to them.

how far is des moines from clarinda, ia?

i know theres a guy in clarinda that does musclecar restoration, he's way out in the country and has a small barn/shop but had some killer cars out there when i was there. he had pictures from some of his cars being sold at barret-jackson.

I went to some small body shops around the area and found a couple of guys who do body work on older cars from their house. You may find someone within the shop who would do it in their spare time, if you are not in a hurry. Good thing about what I found is they are letting me help where I can. May learn something for the next time.
Good luck, as far as cab corners check the vendors on the board, they are all good.

I would do it for you , But my new motor has big trouble and is back out and on the engine stand so my shop is all full for a while . You can do it yourself just don't get in a hurry . there is probably some info on here to help you along and it will be cheaper.. Bob
