Abandoned, neglected square body trucks rotting away...

There are plenty of square body trucks out there just rotting away in junkyards, fields, in the woods, or the desert...so post up the pics!!

Condition is irrelevant...barely there, or 100% complete.

They don't have to be yours...if you find 'em, post 'em up!

A company in Texas bought factory new trucks, cut a foot of the bed out, and grafted a fiberglass section to the back of cabs of many factory trucks back in the '80s.

From my understanding, they were modified by a conversion company. Apparently at the time of ~$6k.

Does anyone have a brochure or additional info on the company that performed these conversions?

It has been discussed before. I believe there were two companies that built these (could have been one though.) The Texas company that made a few is now defunct. If someone knows the name of this company, please let us know.

My 84 was neglected in my grandpa’s back yard for 7 to 8 years. I actually tried to buy it as my first truck 15 years ago, but he wouldn’t sell (it was still on the road then). Fast forward to February 2016 and he hit a bollister in his S10 Blazer. In order to fix it, I offered to pay for all parts and do all labor in exchange for the GMC in the backyard. He agreed! So, I fixed his blazer and my dad and I went to extract the 84.

I had to jack it out of the dirt and the tires wouldn’t hold air very long. But, we were able to pull it out of the woods/ back yard to the side of the house and start it’s journey back to the road. I brought 2 new batteries with me, a fuel filter, and 5 gallons of fresh diesel. Installed the new stuff and after a little cranking the 6.2 fired right up! The tires couldn’t be trusted on the highway (I live 45 miles from Grandpa’s house) so we pulled the wheels, went back to Fargo and I bought new tires at Costco. Tossed them on and drove it home the next week!

Since then I’ve removed the topper, washed the grime off the paint, stripped the interior and de-moused it. Then just some general maintenance (oil change, filter, belts, etc.) and a new balancer and poly filled the stock pulley. That was nearly 2 years ago and I’ve been driving it nearly daily and it’s been a great little truck. I have an NV4500 to swap in eventually as the 700r4 shifts a little soft.

Definitely an odd duck: 1/2 Ton short bed 2wd with a 6.2 diesel and factory air. It also features faded silver paint, not primer as it appears in pictures.
