1967-1970 C30 front wheel hub questions
Hey everyone. Brand New here but I've been lurking for quite some time.
I had a few questions about the front wheel hub on my uncle's 1969 C30. It was a farm truck all it's life and has only 35k miles. It has a 10 ft dump bed that my uncle built as well as the optional factory 11,000 lb rear axle and also the "heavy duty" front hubs...the hubs have 8 studs that bolt to the brake drum and 5 studs that the wheel bolts to. It's actually a 10 bolt pattern for the wheel but only 5 studs stick out....GM part # is 3892511. I've researched and found that they only made them for the C30 trucks from 67-70 and also that the part was discontinued before 1981. With all that being said, we are loot for another one. We went to change the wheel bearings and someone at some point and time had welded the hub to the drum on the passenger side. That whole mess got scrapped unfortunately and now we need another one of those hubs. Right now my uncle has put some 8 wheel lug hubs on the truck for the time being. However he wants to put everything back to original and go back with the big 5 lug hubs and 10 lug wheels again so that they match the 10 lug wheels on the rear axle. By the way we got some newer 10 lug wheels (19.5 inch) from a 1992-2000 GM 3500 HD truck for the rear axle and they look great on the truck! Big step up from the rotted out old split rims that were on the truck to begin with. I've done a lot of searching and ended up finding a salvage yard in IL that had a C40 that the guy said the hub would work on our truck. GM part number for this hub is 3781041... We took it all apart tonight and the hub from the C40 is almost right but has a different set of bearings in it. Haven't tried to fit it to the spindle yet but that will get done before the end of the week. I took some pictures of everything so you can see what slight differences they have. If this does not work for us does anyone know of a salvage yard truck we can get one from? Sorry for the long post and thank you in advance for any help! Few more pictures of the 2 hubs being compared as well as bearing races for the drum side for each. The C30 bearing race is the one that says 2720 NDH Made in USA. The C40 bearing race is the one that says 909848 New Departure Made in USA

Last few pictures here are of the bearing races for the wheel side of the hub. The original C30 hub bearing race is the one that says NDH M1261U and the picture of the clean bearing race that is completely smooth on the inside. The C40 hub bearing race is the one that says New Departure 909673 Made in USA and the picture of the bearing race that has a ridge for what looks like a ball bearing setup on the inside race.

Re: 1967-1970 C30 front wheel hub questions
If some of the more knowledgeable don't chime in by tomorrow you might try posting this in the "Heavy Haulers" section and get a more definitive answer than this...The way I see it you have three options, do an exhaustive search for one or a pair of OEM NOS or used hubs, they're out there you just have to find them. Two, use the C/40 hubs with bearings that match your spindles, while you search for OEM hubs. And three, put the 10's on the back search burner and throw a set of C/30 hubs on until you do find what your looking for...

I too recommend posting a link back here like Ironangel says. To the Heavy Haulers section and to the 4x4 section too.
Good luck and Welcome Aboard!

Re: 1967-1970 C30 front wheel hub questions
The Gm P-30 ,P-32 and P-35 used in Class A motorhome and Class C motorhome used the 5 /10 lug combo.
If you can't find the hub your next choice would be to upgrade to a newer disc brake member from the P-30 and replace the whole crossmember & suspension. Here is what the newer 5 lug hub and rotor looks like from the P-30. Hope this helps.

Re: 1967-1970 C30 front wheel hub questions
Any chance you'd be able to see if it has 5 lug front wheels? Or do you have contact information for the yard and I could contact them maybe!
Thanks!

Re: 1967-1970 C30 front wheel hub questions
Got the project DONE!!!!
I looked all over the internet for junkyards that still had older vehicles, specifically C30's from 1967-1970. I called more than 30 yards across the country and I struck out in about 90+% of them. A few yards had C30's but they weren't the hubs I was looking for. I ran across a guy in Nebraska when I was calling around and he said he didn't have any but knew a guy who would know exactly what I'm looking for. I called Farritor Auto parts in Broken Arrow, Nebraska and spoke with a guy named Jim...this dude knew exactly what I was looking for and took down all my information. He called me the next day and had found the hub I needed in Utah!! I asked if I could get verification of the part numbers before I bought it so about 2 days later he sent me a couple of pictures of the correct casting number on the hub. Hallelujah!!! And thanks to Jim from Farritor. Very nice guy to deal with and I highly recommend him for any questions you may have. I got the hub today via UPS and went to my uncle's house after work to disassemble the 8 lug hubs and put these 5 luggers back on. What we found out is that all of the bearings and seals work in both hubs! So we totally lucked out because the 8 lug hubs we got from a salvage yard truck and put new bearings in, we were able to remove and re-use them all in the original hubs!! Definitely nice since we didn't have to spend any more money or time waiting on bearings. So take note that if you have the 10 lug wheels and 5 lug hubs like we do, the inner and outer bearings and the wheel seals from a standard C30 will work on them. I also got 2 wheels from a lady on Facebook marketplace last week as well as 2 free tires from a mechanic I know who had a few of the 19.5" tires I needed from takeoffs from a stock heavy duty Ford F-550...here's a few pictures of the finished product! Thanks for the help I received from you folks on this forum and also the few messages I received as well. I definitely appreciate it! Oh and as a side note...I do have 2 front 8 lug hubs for a C30 now that I won't be needing if anyone is interested. Thanks again everyone!
