Spicer 23 Transfer Case
Howdy ya'll, I've got a quick question on a weird t-case.
Anyways, my 68 K20 runs a 478 Toroflow Diesel, 5 spd non syncro trans and a divorced Spicer 23 transfer case. I've gotten that much from the plate on the side of the t case. My question now is what is this transfer case out of, the gearing maybe, and possibly the shift pattern (i'm guessing same as Spicer 24 from the fords for most of this?) Anyways, thanks for any help in advance, here's a quick pic:

The Dana 23 is the same thing as the Dana 24 (Ford), just reversed. Shift pattern is the same. This series of transfer cases are very weak and I would be very hesitant to run them behind a diesel...I wouldn't even run it behind a healthy gas motor if I had a choice. Also, the driveshafts must be dropped if the truck is ever flat-towed...otherwise, the pocket bearing will end up in many different pieces in the bottom of the case and, at that point, there is zero reason to expend the effort in trying to rebuild it as opposed to simply swapping in a NP205.

They were used in the NAPCO conversion trucks.

Well, this one came back from the dead. The case didn't make it past the Cummins conversion, and was sold to a NAPCO enthusiast in Kansas, delivered it on the floorboard of my 63 Nova on a SoDak to SoCal trip.
I'll put it out there that even before I clocked my NP205, I gained 9 inches of additional ground clearance over the 23 that hung so low my drive shafts were nearly parallel to the ground! And the $25 it costs to become a member is worth it, if only to help support a very well moderated and popular site that has a very busy classifieds section.
