Skip White Performance distributors
I know abunch of us have skip white distributors. I was wandering if any body has installed a curve kit or limit bushings in one of these.
I have had some issues with the plate and weights of a curve kit binding before the distributor has fully retarded. Anybody want to share their experiences. |

Re: Skip White Performance distributors
I dont have a Skip White, I run an MSD street fire(looks to be about the same , but made my wallet hurt more). At any rate, what I have seen on MOST of the HEI distib's is that with the stock weights/center , they run about 20 degrees mecanical advance(@ the crankshaft). If you set the initial @ 12-14 degrees, you will total @ 32-34 (my 383 like 34 degrees). Most of the aftermarket weights (Mr G, Moroso, MSD, ect) have lighter weights/springs than the stock pcs.....the lite weight spring combo makes it harder to get the proper "all in spot" , and still keep the timing steady@ idle, & also return to your static idle timing @ idle. I like to run the stock weights, with a crane spring combo(blue/silver, or blue/yellow) for the proper "all in " point. You can get an adjustable Crane advance kit for around 25 bones, with springs, or if you dont need the vac can you might find someone that has some extra springs just collecting dust. (I might if I do some diggin). I run 34 total on my 383(9.8,alum heads), + 10 in the can (@ the crank).....some will tolerate more vac advance , depending on the combo. best of luck, crazyL

Re: Skip White Performance distributors
I guess what i am trying to find out is if anyone has ever compared the internals of a MSD and the skip white dizzy. I feel like the geometry of the slots and the pin locations are different.
i have installed an MSD kit, a Crane kit, and a Mr G kit and they all bind before the dizzy fully retards. this limits the max amount that the mechanical advance can open. for instance, with the dizzy in stock config. my timing is at 12 deg. at idle. when i install the MSD kit my timing is now at 30 deg at idle. so its taking up 18 deg of travel by not being able to fully retard. I have ordered limit bushings and i am wondering if they are going to have the same issue as the curve kit. |
