Re: oil pressure
40 to 60 pounds of pressure is not a problem, but if you only had 20 to 30 psi before. then something had to change somewhere. the filter has a bypass valve inside of it which could possibly stick shut and cause the pressure to change. also the oil pump has a pressure regulater valve that could be sticking. i have seen cam bearings spin in the block and cause the pressure to go up. your gauge could be acting up also. i would change the oil and filter and cut the filter open to check for metal. is your engine making any noise.

Re: oil pressure
I'm sure your motor is fine, almost all chevy's I've seen do that.
A safe rule is 10 psi for every 1000 rpm. I drove my '68 Satellite with a 318 with NO oil pressure for 10-15 miles with absolutely no problems. Ended up doing a rebuild, but it was still mechanically fine.

Re: oil pressure
did you change the type or weight of oil?
another thing to note, it is not uncommon to see a sbc with 5-10psi at idle. on my 350, it runs about 45psi @ 3k. at idle, it's 10-15psi.

is that at cold start-up or warm start-up? oil pressure should be greater during a cold start-up.

Re: oil pressure
Your pressure is fine. Nothing to worry about. From the numbers your saying...and your not hearing any noises or differences, just keep driving.
