I've got a new toy

But dont worry. I'm not about to give up on my truck or anything like that. I've got a little bit of a story behind this purchase however.

I was over helping out a buddy of mine with his '68 camaro, just some minor calibrations of the carb to get it running just right - which turned out to be a good deal in the end. Well we were driving out to fetch something to eat, and I notice this cool little Chevy Chevelle Malibu sitting on the side of the road with a for sale sign. Little rust here and there, but otherwise in good shape.

So I stop by, and about die when I see the for sale price they wanted.. 250.00.

It's a 1971 Chevelle Malibu 350. One owner, 44,114 Original miles.

I paid the 250.00 bucks right away and drove it home.

She needs work, but here are some pictures.

Something wrong with four doors? I mean yeah - not as cool as the two doors. But they aren't worthless or anything because of it are they?

Nice find!

What are the 4 doors worth approximately these days? There's a Chevelle sitting on the side of the road here- not sure what year or price, but it has a 327 in it, and the body is almost perfect!

Sorry for the lack of data, but could someone give me a ballpark estimate?

thanks

Great deal I would like the address of the people you bought that car from maybe I can score a 2002 Tahoe for $1000. They didn't know what they had unless they were hard up for the cash. That is my dream year of chevelle(or '72) but I want the 2-door.

wow, that's one hell of a score! are you sure its actually a '71 tough? in '70 they had dual headlights, and square taillights. in '71 they went to the single headlights, and kept the '70 tail lights. '72 is when they went to the dual round taillights if im not mistaken.

According to A) the title and B) the VIN number. Yes it is a 1971.

Please keep in mind it has the Malibu trim package, so could be different from other Chevelle's in that year group. Also could be a late year model, I have yet to go into the full decoding of the vin.

On the down side, I had gotten used to HEI. Now I have to learn how to set points again! Aaaagh!

Nope.

1970 had the dual HL and square TL, 71 & 72 both had the single HL and dual round TL.

hmmm, i guess i've seen more than my fair share of 71s with '70 bumpers then.

2 doors cooler than 4 doors? HA, yeah right. 4 doors generally means bigger back seat. and some of us still use them for the "old" purpose, and its not to haul your friends around. personally, i'd like to find a '67 Chevelle 4 door wagon, and do it up as an SS clone, big block, 4 speed, buckets and a console. i think that would be really sweet.

Bigblock73 is correct . The only difference between 71&72 was the front parking lights. the 71 model had a bar in the center. the 72 model year had a early and late . the difference was still in the paking lights , the lights on the early 72 were a light yellow and the late model year was dark orange. Thats my 2 cents.
I will post pics tomorrow of my new play toy I brought home over the weekend.Hint its a chevy and it is 47 years old.

I actually like points, had fun setting them up during the tune up this morning. Sure, HEI is easy but I'm going to keep this car 100% stock.
