Stroked 402?

Hey y'all. I have a 71 402 mildly stock. Has an edelbrock rpm intake and edelbrock 1407 750cfm carb right now. Also long tube headers. Was wondering how would I stroke this mofo. Is there any real benefit for a 402?

A 454 crank will put it 436ish IIRC, as far as benefit, I guess it depends on what you want from it stump pulling torque, or a higher RPM screamer. Of course this also depends on many other variables.

Pistons. Here is a 461 cu in 396 stroker build. Speed O motive used to offer a 434 cu in 396 stroker, but I don't know if they are still open.

Since you already have the 402, I would do a cam upgrade, dial in the ignition, and call it a day. If you are going so far as to stroke it, I would find a 454 block and stroke it, instead. Now you will have 489/496 cubes, and there is no substitute for cubic inches!

If you are going to do anything just start with a 427/454 block and build from there. A stroker is going to need crank, pistons, rings, bearings and a camshaft anyway.

concur - save the 402s!!! You might be surprised how much you'll like the 402 if you just add a cam/intake/carb. I like em stock but I understand the need for speed. Taint cheap though.

I appreciate every input from y'all. I'm wanting to just do a fresh rebuild but add a little beef. Someone mentioned stroking it would be cool an I concurred. However, adding a cam to the existing setup will save me a lot of headache. If I were to add a cam to a stock setup (except the intake and carb I have) what cam would be recommended? While changing cam, what do you feel about changing lifters way same time. Stroke?

The fastest car I ever owend was a 396 in a chevelle turbo 350 with a vega stall converter and 373 gears. I raced alot and never lost once. I do have to say that I did build a 468 for the truck I am building now. I would keep the 402 add a forged crank 10to 1 big cam stainless valves and have some fun
