Any reason not to???
Any reason i SHOULD NOT have my cab sand blasted.???
Right now the engine is out, the cab is almost 100% stripped. Any reason i shouldnt get it done? Pros easy removal of old 4 layers of paint, unknown bondo glue around the doors easier cleaning and prepping for paint. Less time sanding off firewall. get a FRESH canvas on the underside of rig. Cons. Misc sand everywhere? removal of cab is hard?? Extra 250 bucks. I dont know.. Any other thoughts?? |

Re: Any reason not to???
Using sand can warp the panels especially the roof. There are better media to use for sheetmetal

Re: Any reason not to???
Go for it just ask them to use a soda media, they should know exactly what to use and the correct pressures so as not to warp the cab.

Re: Any reason not to???
Im no expert on which media to use as far as what will warp, but I think for 250$ its worth it. I probably spent that on sand paper, dust masks, compressor maint. etc and still never took it all the way down thru the multiple layers. Youd be doing it right and the money would be about a wash.
As far as clean up.. Im still cleaning out dust from the old paint in all the little nooks of my truck using a DA so I wouldnt use sand everywhere as a con because your going to make a mess either way. Ive heard good about walnut shells for media but have no direct experience, maybe worth researching though. Just my .02.. Red

Re: Any reason not to???
Yup theres a fine line on how far you want to go! Pull the cab, mine as well pull the bed, suspension etc etc.. next thing you know its 2 years later and your truck is in 1000 pcs!! ( I know from exp)
Just a thought here but could you just trailer it to them, slide the bed back and have them do it on the chassis?

Re: Any reason not to???
If the funds and time are there, i say go for it.
Acifd dipping can cause trouble, and probably costs more, so I would say steer clear of that. As far as clean up with media, it CAN be an issue, but a stripped cap would be minimal issue. It gets in window regulators, hinges, nooks and crannys, ect... but if the doors are off, that's most of the trouble spots. |

Re: Any reason not to???
Media blast but use an etching primer only. Otherwise your paint won't stick in places & you will be cussing later.

The thing about warping body panels can be true. But if you take it to a reputable shop that does this all the time you're going to be fine. Now if I tried to blast my panel body Im sure it wouldnt be pretty. |

Marysville, Arlington...all the same ;-)
They did all the sheet metal on the front of my truck and did BEAUTIFUL work. I'm planning on having them do the frame on my parts truck as well. |
