fixing an old windshield

Is there anyway to clear up an old windshield? It has the usual scratches and is hard to see through at night.

I remember once seeing a t.v show with those 2 guys on t.n.n. a few years back, called something garage or something, anyway one of these guys was cleaning up an old windshield with some kind of paste-like substance and a polishing pad on a small buffer.Seemed to work, can't remember the name of the product he was using, I'd say do a search on here, but I beleive that is currently not working, I'm sure you'll find something on the net with a few key words.Best of Luck.
