New member from Iowa

Hi, my name is Rob Livingston. In the early ‘90s I owned a rusty, crusty ‘69 Chevy short box. It was orange and had cheap white wagon wheels. It was my daily driver and I used it to pull an open trailer with my 70 elCamino to the track.
When I closed the door or went over bumps little flakes of rust would fall from the roof. One day on the way to work the wiring under the dash caught fire. I had it towed home after work. I spent several hours every night for a month pulling burnt wires apart one by one and soldering new wires in. When I was done everything worked, even some stuff that didn’t before the fire.
I had to work out in New Jersey one summer and drove my c 10 out there. I raced it at Atco raceway while I was out there, think it ran in the 15s. At the end of the summer before heading home, the truck wouldn’t start. I was staying at a hotel and had no tools. I ended up selling it to a guy I worked with out there.
Man I loved that truck and always wanted another one. Well 30 years later I picked up a 1972 c10 deluxe. It’s way nicer than the old 69 I had. Something about these c10s that bring happiness like no other vehicle!

Re: New member from Iowa

Here’s a couple pictures of new to me truck. I bought it from a nice couple in Oklahoma. Factory air, pwr steering, pwr brakes. Original paint. Has minor dents and dings, but extremely solid. I have lots to tinker with on it this winter, but it’s already a real good driver.
I plan to set it up to pull an open trailer. I still have the same elCamino I’ve had since 1988 and still go to the track quite a bit.

Welcome to the forum! Looks like you've got one with less rust this time!

Here’s a couple pictures of the elCamino. I sold all of my dedicated race cars. This is setup up for street/strip duty. It has a 496 on e85. I drive it to and from the track and it runs 10.70s just the way I drove it there.

Re: New member from Iowa

I sold my 67 nova that was a dedicated race car. I live 15 minutes from Cedar Falls raceway, so that is my home track. Tri State is only an hour, so we used to go there a few times a year. We also went to Byron Dragway, Eddyville raceway and Cordova fairly often. We made it out to the track at Onawa once and Humboldt a couple times. Had a great time racing!

We want to try some drag and drive events with the elCamino next year. That will be new to us. Combining 2 of my favorite things, cruising and racing!

I've wanted to do rocky mountain race week 1.0 for years. I never have made it yet. A friend of mine just did the one guys garage weekend drag and drive and he really liked it. If nothing else, I'm going to try and make that one next year. It's in Iowa and is a 3 day event in late September usually.
