86 c10 battery terminal wiring

I recently bought a used 86 C10 and noticed that some of the accessory wiring is running to some type of resistor on the front radiator support, instead of running directly to the battery.

Could someone explain why this is needed?

Thanks!

Also,

I am wanting to upgrade my battery terminal wiring (to the starter and alternator) any suggestions there?

Do you have a photo of what's on the front radiator support?

Re: 86 c10 battery terminal wiring

Does it have 3 wires running to it 2 large and a small? If so it could be a factory relay. Basically a switch used for running something with a larger amp draw, possibly a camper.

Or it could be a battery isolator, if it has cooling fins/ribs on it it is probably an isolator.

But the best thing you can ever do when asking a "What is this" post, is put up a picture, saves us from using our imagination and guessing.

Re: 86 c10 battery terminal wiring

That is a circuit breaker, not a resistor.
Don't know what they were powering, but some things may have been:
- headlight relay mod
- trailer wiring

Re: 86 c10 battery terminal wiring

It looks like somebody had a lot of aftermarket accessories wired through the breaker. Nothing is connected to it now, but the main wire, which I'm assuming is going to the battery. Not sure if it's a positive connection or a ground since they used black wire. You can disconnect that wire going to it and remove the breaker.

Re: 86 c10 battery terminal wiring

If your not going to need it take it off and terminate it at the battery.
