Burb A/C effectivness
O.K.... Any of you burban guys added Air to your trucks?
The wife insists that I add air to my Jimmy. However,Im not sure any of the aftermarket units will do the job. My 69 shortbed truck had factory air; and on a hot day (say 100F outside) it barely did the job (and thats being generous). I figure if you burban guys have installed A/C and it is effective in your rides, it will work for me in the Jimmy. I know the factory units for burbans had a rear auxillary unit, but the aftermarket doesnt offer that. I was kind of leaning towards Old Air because the fan units are seperate between air and heat. Whats your opinions/experience? TIA, Tom |

I have heard Vintage air is solid and A company called Arizona mobile air ACKits.com is really liked by AC pros, check their forum.

Re: Burb A/C effectivness
I called Vintage Air awhile back. From what I remember they sold the basic truck setup for the front and then had some sort of universal setup for the back. The back would end up being tucked up on the side on the floor, it was not an overhead unit. I think for both kits it was around $1400 total.
I called thier 1 800 number and they were very helpful and spent some time on the phone with me. All it cost was a few minutes of my time.

Re: Burb A/C effectivness
I have an Old Air setup in my Burb and it works fine. When my heater control valve was sticking, it was inadequate on hot muggy days. But now that that's fixed it works great - at least from the front seat. I don't have middle or back seats so I don't know what it feels like back there.

Re: Burb A/C effectivness
The various aftermarket companies have high output A/C units. A friend has one in his Jimmy and it works well.
He has insulated the truck and has a factory tinted windshield and door glass, with deep tinted side windows and back light. |
