76 stepside lowering options
So I am now at that point in my Resto where I need to decide on suspension. Stock as of right now I'm wanting to lower it. Not going to be a daily driver, but I don't want it slammed to the ground and hit every bump on the road. Debating either a 3/4 or 4.5/6. Would love to see some pics and any suggestions would be cool too. I know there are lots of pics on the forum but not many that actually label the inches of drop.

Re: 76 stepside lowering options
Cut coils in the front; relocated spring hangers and took a couple leafs out in the rear.
Probably 4/6 when all was said and done. This was my daily driver; Ride was fine, but I did have to go slow over those typical Michigan (translation: bumpy) rail road crossings. K

Re: 76 stepside lowering options
2.5" summit spindles and DJM 2" coils up front. DJM flip kit in the back.
The drop was 4 9/16" in the front and 4 1/2 in the back, on my truck I put summit g7728 drop shocks in the front. With my big ass balloon 235/75/15 front tires, I can see rub marks inside my inner fender wells, from hitting speed bumps too hard...The cure is just to slow down over speed bumps...and maybe some 235/70/15's or 225/70/15's for the front in the not too distant future Last edited by lilpoindexter; 04-04-2011 at 09:48 PM. |

Re: 76 stepside lowering options
Thanks for the pics! I think I am leaning more towards the 4 1/2 - 6. I would still love to see more pics of both fleetside and step side.

Re: 76 stepside lowering options
I prefer 2/4 ( spindle and shackle/hangar kit) for street driven trucks...you retain most of the factory travel and still have reasonable clearance.
Our 86 shop truck and the 80 sport both have the Bell Tech kit ...also the 89 dually we used to own |
