advise

I need some help in finding the value of my Dad's truck. He passed away a few years ago and we had on offer on it and the family really wants to sell. But I think it's a little low.
The truck is is a 1970 Chevy C10 LWB and is truly a Barn Find/Survivor. Dad had purchased in in Nov of 1969 and did not use any more after '75 or '76. It has a little over 18k miles on it. While it's not perfect, it really is a nice truck and very original down to the plug wires and old bias-ply tires.
So we were offered $10k for it and I've seen values all over the place. I think that it's worth a lot more. But what do you guys think?
Thanks, Fred

Re: advise

That is very nice- tough to find one like that in the midwest! It should be worth more than 10K- not sure how much more. Maybe JoesJunk will chime in- he's a survivor specialist

Re: advise

Man,... I would love to own that truck.
It's my favorite color.
I would think it would bring $10k-$15k to the right buyer.
Good luck on selling it.

Re: advise

I think the buyer that came in at 10k uncontested was being very fair and reasonable.
It is possible you can get more money, but you might also have more headache.
If you are willing to risk it,and it is about getting the most money, put it on eBay as a no reserve auction.
That will tell you the true value.
As you stated it is a true survivor with low miles.
That will bring you a premium.
But, it is a low optioned longbed truck.
So, not funny money

If the the person that offered the 10k is a friend relative collector etc. maybe that is where it was meant to end up
I'm sure the truck has some sentimental value to your family, and it is not all about the money.
Good luck with your sale.
I hope it ends up in the right hands.
After all it is an original unmolested truck that hopefully will stay that way

Re: advise

That sure looks good. Does it run? Was the offer for it just as it sits? If it's been sitting for a long time and the offer is for it just as it sits, I would say that's a fair offer.
If it hasn't run in a long time are you willing to get it on the road again? And give it a good detailing? That can sure make a difference.

What are you thinking it's worth?

I would love to see more pics of this truck.

I also notice it has power brakes, but it's not listed on the SPID? I'm guessing your dad had the dealer add that?

Re: advise

beautiful truck. agree 10k as-is is not insulting. if it was mine i'd start a bit higher. but i'd also try and find a buyer that would appreciate the originality and not hack it up.

Re: advise

I guess for me the big issue is has it been started since 1975/76 and if it hasn't then 10k is a great price. If its driveable and the box floor is in good shape I'm thinking 12/14k.. I love the plastic see through seat cover that is so 60's/70's..

Re: advise

Thanks for all the info! I'm glad that $10k isn't that far off. I was hoping for closer to $20k
The truck does start and run/drive. He started it several times a year and every now and then drive it down to the end of the road and back. It does really need a good detailing. Would I be better off detailing it and making it presentable rather than leaving the Barn Find look?
Also, it has the original tires, would I be better off putting some modern radials on it as the ones that are on it I wouldn't trust t further than the end of driveway.
It does have power brakes and steering that were added. I don't think that the dealer added. My dad would have went to a junk yard and found a truck that had them so he could make sure everything was there, pulled and put on himself. Also was added a regulator for a second battery. It had a camper on it at one time.
That plastic on the seats, my mom remembers ordering just after they bought it. I don't think it's been off since.

This is a pic from about 12 years ago when it was out for a bath.

Re: advise

If it was my truck i would leave it as is and sell it that way. at the price point you are wanting spending 5/600 on tires will not get you 5/600 more on the sale. Someone that buys your truck is buying it for the originality and prominence and I'd leave it up to the purchaser to get tires and do anything that need stop be done. The big thing as I pointed out in my last post is that it runs and drives so a buyer will know what they are getting.

Re: advise

I would leave it as it is, just having it running and driving is good. Leave the original tires on it. Post up some more pictures when you can, I'm a huge fan of low mile original survivor trucks.

Re: advise

$10k as is was actually a decent price as it may need things to really be a safe driver after sitting so many years. $25k for it is an insane price when a nut and bolt full restoration to original spec wont even sell for that price for that specific truck, but there are guys out there with more money than research skills.

Be interesting to see what kind of money it does bring it, when it does sell. The last few I've seen in that condition took a few years to sell in the $15k range as they aren't a highly desirable truck or rare.

I agree, but still swinging for the fences! We've had a good firm offer @ 15K, 20K will make the family happy.

I think 15k is a great offer and sometimes, and I'm talking from 35 years of experience, your first offer is yoiur best offer..

Re: advise

not to be negative but just wondering. the odometers numbers are very askew isn't that a tell tale sign of rolling over at 100k and also why are there no chalk marks under the hood on the cowl? again not nit picking. just curious.

Not all trucks had chalk markings on them. Depends on the plant that built it

I am going to ask this and please don't be insulted and if do not want to respond, so be it. You say and I quote " We've had a good firm offer @ 15K, 20K will make the family happy." Why is the family stuck at 20K?

Re: advise

If you currently have a $15k offer and the truck isn't even a road worthy driver, I'd jump on that 100 times over. $15-20k is restored swb pricing in my area lol Hopefully it's not a wait too long and the offer disappears situation as lots of the times that first offer is the best offer like Already Gone said.

That being said, since it's a family vehicle I'd keep it.

Re: advise

Just checked my local area & if you can get $15k USD for that I've got a few similar low mileage original & restored trucks here for a fraction of that price to flip in your market. So if the family doesn't care about old trucks or keepsakes then just take the money and run as fast as possible! Don't delay & lose out on a fool & his money!

Re: advise

The survivors continure to go up in value. There is no NADA book for them . It is what the buyer is willing to pay. Each truck sets its own value dependent on the truck . I would not list one ebay unless . Or start it at the lowest price you are willing to take. Even then you run the risk of non paying, deadbeat buyers. A truck like this to get top dollar needs to be exposed to as much of the market as you can stand . Hemming, car trader books , this forum , online. The more exposure the higher the price. The higher the price the longer it will take to sell . But it will sell . I do not fee you family price is out of line. I would rather have a truck like this than some bondo truck filled with poor fitting China parts . Good luck with your sale.
