Radiator caps

I’m installing recovery tanks in a 69 & two 72 trucks . I was told that as long as I had one with a gasket at top of cap I was good. Not the case was told any part store had them again not true. The pollpet at bottom of cap aka round stainless must not be spring loaded. It must hang down. Upon warm up pollpet is pushed up on cool down it lowers allowing coolent to be drawn in to radiator.cap must be vented! Have part # if anyone needs

Re: Radiator caps

I thought the coolant expanded when it got hot raising the pressure past the spring tension of the cap allowing coolant to escape to the recovery tank.

Then when it cooled down the pressure of the system dropped below atmospheric causing the coolant in the recovery tank to be forced back into the radiator.
